I posted on this thread a while back when I got into Hamilton EDII. I said I withdrew my applications but I actually didn’t because I didn’t get my financial aid in time. I was notified of my decision everywhere before my financial aid came so I didn’t end up pulling out any applications.

Accepted:
Hamilton EDII (attending), Bowdoin, Middlebury, Colgate, Vassar, Dickinson, UBC, McGill, St. Andrews (thought I’d withdrawn-- eh)
Deferred/Waitlisted: Georgetown
Rejected: Dartmouth

White Guy, Portland, OR
GPA: 4.0 UW / 4.9 or so W
Rank: Valedictorian
SAT: 2160
ACT: 30
ECs: Classical piano, church group, Habitat for Humanity, school newspaper, constitutional law team
Awards, etc: Excellence in Chemistry, Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude (Nat. Latin Exam), article published in Alaska Airlines magazine
Work: Preschool teacher, 20ish hours a week
Essays/Recs: Pretty good
Hook: geographical diversity? I dunno…

kingkouture–you realize that you violated your ED agreement with Hamilton, right? You essentially took spots that other kids could have had at the schools that ultimately accepted you. If Hamilton found out, they could have recinded your acceptance. Waiting for your fin aid award is no excuse. ED II is binding and you were to withdraw all of your other applications immediatly after getting your decision.

The Hamilton ED agreement ends with the following sentence:

Since Hamilton didn’t notify kingkouture of his FA award, I think you can make the argument that the agreement is inoperative.

http://www.hamilton.edu/admission/ApplicationProcess/ED_Agreement_Class_of_200821.pdf</a>

Hamilton notified students of their ED II acceptances before February 15. Notifications for Middlebury, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, and his other RD schools came out more than 45 days later (end of March).

From the ED agreement:

I’d be curious to know when his FA info for Hamilton arrived. I can see it being a week or two late, but certainly not 1.5 months late, unless of course he didn’t submit the proper FA forms.

Also, not to beat a dead horse, but what are we supposed to believe from kingkouture? Check out these posts:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/474179-what-s-dumbest-reason-you-applied-didn-t-apply-school-10.html#post1059964590</a>

How were you accepted to Middlebury if you withdrew your application because it’s not “gay friendly”?

And then there’s this:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/215577-can-more-graduated-seniors-do-actual-results-threads-60.html#post1059782043</a>

Why say that you withdrew your applications when in fact you didn’t? Or did you?

Any one who has gotten accepted to Duke or UNC please PM me your stats. just for my own personal reference. Thank you, you guys are great!

I used to think that CC was full of above average students, that we all could emulate. Turns out its full of the top tier students, who have the best possible chances. Its impossible for those of us that are not slightly wealthy to gain the amount of EC’s and volunteer that you people have. Obviously, due to home responsibilities and lack of car or bus token money…

Take a look at the demographics at top schools. Most have strong financial aid programs and are able to attract (and accept!) low income students. I’m not going to pretend that being poor doesn’t make getting into top schools more difficult, but it’s definitely not impossible.

Hey Lucky98, congratz on getting into Wharton! I looked at your stats, and I know most of students who apply to Wharton have scores like yours, or even higher. What do you think that made you unique enough to get into that school?

Final things to consider
Essay were alright, I talked about experiencing SARS in my common app. Interest in engineering, being Asian, travels to other countries, etc...I don't think they stood out too much, but they were alright.
Letters of rec were ok too, my history teacher probably wrote me a good one, but my math teacher didn't know me as well as I had hoped.
Not really anything else I can think of...except I lived in China for middle school? Oh yeah, and I skipped a grade!

Hope I helped some people! :)
