I recently got accepted to Yale- my super reach dream school.

Now as the weeks have passed and I've celebrated, ive been brought back to reality and im worrying about my acceptance (ea) being revoked because my grades this first semester have dipped. I had a 3.84(UW) when i applied, and this semester I will probably have

AP Chem - C
AP LA 12 - B
AP Calc - B
Photography - A
Piano - A
Buisness Comm - A

All of those bad grades are in very hard classes, and these classes are like the toughest offered at my school.

It is not only that, but next semester, I will be taking photography off(I will have a study hall) because I got it waived. I am also switching from AP Calculus to the normal Calculus class because I will not be taking the AP.

Any thoughts on all this? Am I fine or should I worry?

I know by themselves these wouldn't be bad, but I think the dropping of AP Calc + subpar grades will equal the loss of my acceptance???

I'm really scared, what do you think will happen?

Why don't you call Yale and ask them about their policy? Most schools require that you get permission from them before you change your schedule anyway.

You'll be fine, and I say this with 100% confidence.

to get it revoked it would take <2.0 but to stay safe just stay above 3.0 man

ok legendofmax, I love your enthusiasm but why do you say so? Did you have a similar experience when you were a senior before u went to penn?

Kevin what was your weighted GPA when you applied for Yale? And since it's a 3.33 I think your fine.

My school doesn't calculate weighted gpa. 3.84UW when i applied and this is by far the lowest semester of my hs carrer.

But what do you think about the calculus change? Will they approve?? Because im going to take entry level calc at yale when i get there anyway, but I know it looks like I'm slacking if I drop AP Calc...

You could get straight Bs and you'd still get in. C's are slightly worrisome. Ds are death. If you can get that C up you have NO worries. Don't drop Calc... a B in AP is fine. They stop judging you after you've been accepted... they just don't want someone who's going to completely fall apart after being admitted. Your grades do not qualify as "falling apart."

ok but i might have to drop calc because if you don't maintan a 75 test grade you get recommended for normal calc?

How will that look?

You're obviously freaking out over nothing. Do a simple search on the topic. It's mianly D's that get you in a gray area, regardless of what school you get into.

kevinhamilton: I am 100% confident because, as others have said, you'd have to start failing/getting D's for them to revoke your admission. Colleges know people tend to slack off due to senioritis post-acceptance, and as long as you don't let things go into the toilet, you'll be a Bulldog soon enough

I should also add that I've rarely seen cases where acceptances are revoked due to grades. I think it's something that people blow up over and exaggerate because it IS possible to have acceptances taken away due to extremely poor performance, but again, it's only in the cases where performance is EXTREMELY poor. If you go from all A's to suddenly getting D's and C's, that's an obvious red flag and the school is going to be asking "Dude, what's going on here?" Any reasonable individual would ask the same. I think it's basically a common-sense issue.

To answer your other question, no, I was not in a similar situation, but I've seen plenty who have been. I know a kid who was a 4.0 straight-A student but let himself get B's and C's his last semester with an acceptance to Harvard. Nothing happened. You still have a few A's and only one C. That's hardly bad enough to have your acceptance rescinded!

It's normal to have high-performing kids worry themselves sick over these sort of things (e.g. "OMG should I retake my 2300?!"), but most of the time, common sense prevails.
