He has a 31 and a 3.8/4.3 gpa and has great extra curricular and leadership. He wants tufts but I don’t know if it is realistic. What do you think? He’s also a pretty good writer.
Also 3.8 is about an A-
My kid applied RD so it’s not apples to apples…but she had a 33 ACT, good ECs, and demonstrated interest and she was accepted.
How about gpa? And do you think my kid could get in with a 31
Yes, your kid can get in with those stats. What matters more than what you have listed are how well he writes for his Tufts application and the letters of recommendation, speaking to whether he is the kind of person that Tufts feels will add to the community. Having a realistic shot at getting in, by “the numbers”, does not assure that he will. No experienced person on these boards thinks much of the “chance me” questions as there are far more equally qualified applicants than these schools can accept, and there is no way of knowing in advance which will be accepted and which denied.
Agree with Charger78. Of course he can get in. But those numbers don’t say much. How hard were his courses and many APs has he taken? (And how did he do on any AP exams to date?) Has he taken tough courses in diverse areas - calc, physics, as well as social sciences and humanities?
And, of course, it then depends on how his application and recs express his “voice.”
