I know that in some universities such as Brown you can get a B.S. and B.A. if you do a five year plan? is there a similar program at Stanford? also, is triple majoring permitted? how is the core curriculum?

You can double major. Triple, I am not sure. You can get a BS and BA or a BAS. You can also do the coterminal program in which you get both a bachelor's and a master's in the span of 5 years total. Go here for more information... http://www.stanford.edu/dept/registrar/bulletin/bulletin06-07/pdf/AcademicPolicy.pdf read page 15 and on.

There's no real core curriculum, just IHUM and PWR, which are annoying but easy...meeting general graduation requirements for the rest of your classes is very easy

Triple, I highly doubt. Of course, if you want to put the extra 2 years and 90,000, Stanford won't do anything to deter you from your pursuit of education.

You definitely want to look at the units required for the majors. If you plan on double majoring in majors that only require maybe 70 or 80 units, it's definitely plausible. If, however, you want to double major in 2 majors that require over 100 units each, and you want to graduate in 4 years? Forget it. Keep in mind that one course can't be counted to fill requirements for two majors. You would just take higher level courses to make up the unit requirement for your other major.

Also, if you go in knowing exactly what you want to do and can plan out all your courses for the next 4 years (there are people who can do this...i personally cannot), then it shouldn't be a problem. But if you're the average student who isn't 100% sure of what they want to do in life and you need a little time to explore your options, double majoring may not be right for you.

jackiec, can't you get a secondary major and bypass the double dip restrictions?

Yes, but if you choose the secondary major option, keep in mind that the major won't be listed on the diploma -- your transcript will just have a note that you filled the course requirements for the other major.
