What information can college see on the FAFSA report they receive. My daughter is transferring to another college and would like to know if the loans and grants given to her in the previous school will be revealed on the FAFSA report sent to her new college? For example, will the FAFSA report reveals to the new school where she went and how much loans she took out at the previous school. Thank you very much.

I know Dept of Ed maintains the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) which is the central database for student aid.

I’m sure the schools can access this database for the financial aid history of their students.

They can certainly see any federal loans she has taken out. There are aggregate limits on federal loans, so they are tracked on the site 4kidsdad mentioned so schools can make sure students don’t exceed the limit.

Absolutely. The school receives an ISIR (the school version of the SAR), and loans are detailed on the ISIR. Schools review the loans to make sure there are no issues that might impact eligibility for federal aid.

You don’t need to worry that there will be any value judgments made regarding your loans, though … aid officers are too busy to do that! This really should not be a concern, though. The application for admission would have asked about all previous schools attended, so the school would already have that information - and that is a separate issue than financial aid. Schools do have to make sure that annual loan limits and aggregate loan limits are not exceeded, and that the student only receives aid at one school during the same semester … that is what the aid officer is looking for.
