Are senior year mid-year grades viewed as equally as other years? For example, my junior year grades dropped quite a bit in comparison to my freshman and sophomore grades. If I can get over a 4.0 senior year, can this save me?

No, junior year is pretty much the most important. Your senior year grades can help you, but not SAVE you. A 4.0 GPA senior year isn't going to offset your 2.5 GPA sophomore and junior years.

Some colleges barely look at your midyear, BTW.

if you are applying to ucs senior yr wont even help you

i asked basically the same question and it probably won't help u that much. i no, i wished it would help me too, but it prolly wont. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I was under the impression it went:

junior year
beginning of senior year
sophomore year
freshman year

its jr yr, soph yr, and i am not sure which

That's what I think.

oh.. well maybe i am confused with what UCs care about.

Since UCs don't see senior grades, for them it's just:

junior year
sophomore year
freshman year

When I visited Wellesley last month and talked to an adcom lady, she said that first quarter/first semester senior grades were actually quite important because they're the "most recent indicator of how you're doing," which makes sense.

Except for UCs, apparently.

This thread seems useful: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/435636-senior-year-grades-do-they-really-matter.html?highlight=senior+year+grades

Actually, UCs don't care about freshman year grades either. They just want 10-11th grades.

I don't think a senior year grade can completely offset anything.

fresh- 3.9
soph 4.0
junior 3.75

so you don't think an over 4.0 GPA senior year could save my drop junior year?

I think senior grades actually do help a bit in the sense that if you are on a equal standing with another person and are taking about the same classes and stuff- if you have really good grades sr year it might push you over. But like someone else said it's not going to completely break/make you (unless you like.. fail them all or something xD).
