Can some1 walk me through the housing process?

Im planning to attend rutgers new brunswick and I'm majoring in science at the SAS. So I'm kinda confused on how the whole housing process works.. what is this lottery thing about? and will i get to choose where i want to dorm at? i heard the new livingston apartments are going to open up fall 2012 where i would enter as a freshmen. the new livingston apartments look really nice but is it only for upperclassmen? which campus should i dorm at if I'm looking for a more urban feel? (cuz I'm from NY). at which one has the closest proximity to the buildings where ill take my classes? thanks for all the help i can get :)

Apparently, the lottery isn’t available to incoming students this year, so you won’t have to worry about it. You just fill out the housing application by going to the Enrollment Pathway and going from there and submitting payment online, which confirms your housing and dining plans. You can choose which ever campus you want to live on when you do it through the Enrollment Pathway.

oh okay, thank you  so if i wanted to live in the NEW livingston apartments i can just choose to do so? as long as i pay the rates? or are the freshmen all situated in one part of the livingston campus?

you can live in apartments as a freshmen

Freshman cannot live in apartments. When you fill out your housing app (which first opened in March) you will prioritize your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd housing choices by campus. You will be assigned to a dorm on the first campus that has availability, according to your priority. You will find out your housing assignment sometime in August.

College Ave has the most ‘urban feel’. As a freshman, you may have classes on any of the campuses, but most science classes are on Busch (and maybe Cook? I’m not sure about that). Humanities classes are usually on College Ave, but can be on any campus.

My son entered as a business student so his advisor did his first semester scheduling. All his classes were on Busch and Livingston. I’m not sure how freshman scheduling first semester for other majors is done.

Is there a deadline for submitting the housing form?

I think the deadline is June 1 or June 15th. Just call housing and ask them. For additional information, contact Rutgers Information at 732/932-INFO

The housing form can also be updated (if you find a roommate, decide on a different campus) until mid-July.
