Download a copy of “Introducing the University”
http://universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/ITU.pdf

It includes information about each campus and about admission and application policies and procedures.

UC system selectivity was recently discussed in this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/497122-uc-schools.html

You can find out more at the UC website:

[University of California - Campuses - The University of California campuses provide environments that foster world-class educational and research opportunities, generating a wide range of public benefits and services.](Campuses & locations | University of California)

For the most popular selective ones:

UCLA: avg. weighted GPA: 4.34. avg. unweighted GPA: 3.85. Avg. SAT: 1353(directly off current UCLA website)
UC Berkeley: avg. weighted GPA: 4.25, unweighted GPA 3.82. avg. SAT: 1337(out of 1600) (Directly off current Berkeley website)

Take into consideration that you are out-of-state, so chances are the GPA’s of admitted out-of-state students are a lot higher.

Website: [Facts at a glance - UC Berkeley](<a href=“By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley”>By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley)
Unweighted GPA = 3.87
SAT I average = 2034

The GPA numbers listed for the UC campuses in post #3 refer to a UC GPA.

To compute your UC GPA, go to this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/527903-uc-gpa.html

and read my post #7.

Also, be aware that your numbers will need to be better than what is posted above in #3 since you are out-of-state, and the numbers given for the UCs are the school averages. Since over 90% of all students are from in-state, the numbers are skewed accordingly.

Lastly, you need to realize that the more honors/AP/IB classes you take past the 8 semester limit, the more your overall UC GPA will fall if you are above the 4.0 number to begin with (this is because you can only get a 4.0 in those classes, but can get as much as a 5.0 in the first 8 semesters of honors classes). Recognize that the adcoms take this into account in determining who to admit to the campuses–and do not penalize those who take more difficult classes.

OP - both UC Berkeley and UCLA adcoms consider the same non-grade/SAT stuff that adcoms at any Top 30 school do – ECs, strength of curriculum, essays, etc., so just having a top half GPA/SAT does not give you enough information.

This website details the admissions data for each school. You will want to focus on GPA and 2 part SAT score in the menu selections.

As to the description of the UC System, and each of its nine schools (ten if you count UCSF), Wikipedia as usual comes to your aid:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_california

Unless your family is willing to pay the $40k - 50k per year for a UC school, I wouldn’t bother to apply.

Is money a concern?

^ This thread is almost 2 years old…I think the OP has moved on…to MSU.

The question is why did DunninLA post two years apart on the same thread, in consecutive posts??

^ Post in between got deleted.
