Please give your college suggestions in the US where I stand a chance.

When are you hoping to start college in the US? Fall 2015 or fall 2016?

Some schools I could suggest you have poor financial aid… can you pay full-freight to, say, UIUC or UMass Amherst?

How much can your family afford to pay each year?

Do employers in your country prefer certain universities?

There are many places where you can study Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering that would be happy to admit a student like you. However, you need a university that you can pay for, and that will help you get a job that is in your home country once you graduate. Many places are already past their application dates for fall 2015 enrollment.

Start here: https://www.educationusa.info/ Then make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live. If you can’t visit in person, find out how much help they can give you by email or phone. There are several locations in India: https://www.educationusa.info/India

If I understand your GPA correctly, I would say that you could apply anywhere as long as you have a list of schools that offers some safeties, schools you will certainly get into, be able to afford, and would certainly go to if you’re rejected from all your other schools. Not applying for financial aid can be helpful in admission to the most elite schools (and all others), so you might want to put Carnegie Mellon and MIT on your list. Then maybe Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, Cornell, UIllinois, and UWashington. And follow that up with a couple safeties; choose from Maryland, Stony Brook, UMinnesota, Santa Clara, and hundreds of others.

I would say you have a good shot at just about any college. It will come down to your preference for location, school size, and the amount that you want to pay each year. Four schools that I think you should check out are Georgia Tech, Rice, Vanderbilt, and Washington University in St. Louis. You are a little behind schedule if you plan on starting this fall, as many schools have closed the application window. This may limit your selection.

I am planning to apply by January 2016 which is the deadline for most colleges I assume. And what do you guys think about me apply to Stanford REA in November?

I’d say you have a decent shot at anywhere. So give Stanford REA at try.

But why wouldn’t you attend an IIT? Assuming you got in, its almost free and has a comparable reputation internationally. You could save all that money for your future start up while you’re in grad school at Stanford…

I didn’t get in, I haven’t even written the JEE exam yet. I am in 11th. JEE exams are on next April and May for me. And I don’t think IIT would suit me. People say all they do there is study. I want a place where I can play, study, get involved in lots of extracurricular activities.

For students who think there is more to life than going to classes and studying, and that there are ways of learning and growing that take place outside of books, it would make sense to attend MIT or HarveyMudd or Case Western or UMaryland, rather than an IIT, especially if they have enough money to attend either one (or won a scholarship to the former.)

Sounds like things have changed a lot at IIT. Spouse says he spent his freshman year playing bridge and trying to avoid the pot fumes that pervaded the dorm…hardly attended class at all. They all turned out to be CEOs, founders of companies, heads of research at major institutions, etc…Apparently playing bridge and smoking dope was excellent prep. Sounds like its gone downhill since then…so sad.
