Can someone help me with essays??

Hey, im a in-state student with a mich GPA of 3.8-3.9 and 33 ACT..I have decent EC's, but looking at the essays makes me not even want to try to apply..

Can some people give me their AIM names so i can talk to them sometime about writing a good essay??

I cant do the essays for a week probably

What exactly is the problem? The essays aren’t bad and are hardly even that important in the application, you just have to get them done and have them be reasonably good. You have a high GPA and good ACT, how could you have done that if you can’t write?

Yeah it took my forever to think of an idea for the setback essay, but I finally came up with one, and now I’m finishing it up. But yeah, like Twisted said, the essay isn’t even important for someone with good stats like yours. Just write some essays that answer the prompt and are free from errors (nothing special or creative; I’m sure you can handle it) and you should be fine.

I can write good, but im having a hard time deciding what to write about…

The question is something along the lines of share an experience where you gained respect for intellectual, social, or cultural differences…

That essay was tough for me to come up with a topic for, too. I have an eight year old nephew with an autistic spectrum disorder and I described how it affects him and the ways in which I THOUGHT it would affect him and it doesn’t, like his happiness and his determination, and I have great respect for that yadda yadda. And then I believe the next section asks you to discuss how you will contribute to the diversity, so I mentioned having been diagnosed with a learning disability within the last year and how it had affected me and how I’d struggled to overcome it, and how it taught me that education is not a given right but a privilege that must be earned with hard work, etc and so forth whatever. It took me like months to come up with that but it worked out. Just keep thinking and I’m sure you’ll come up with something.

ok thanks for the help…I have a cousin with autism also. My essay will probably be about that. Also, Im attending the University of Michigan Application Tailgate Workshop this weekend. I guess they’re giving tips about filling the application out and writing essays, so ill probably get a better feel for it by then.

Im not planning on turning my application in until a few days before the deadline

^ Ok you should have plenty of time by then. Are you applying by the early response deadline, or regular decision?

I want to do the early response deadline, which I believe is due on Nov. 1st.

Do you have a better shot at getting in during the ER deadline, or is it that you only get your decision sooner?
