Hello all, I was wondering if someone could chance me for those schools I’ve listed above. My high school is relatively competitive.
I’ve taken 10 AP classes throughout high school-Calc AB, Calc BC, Stats, Physics 1, Biology, Chemistry, U.S. History, Gov, Econ, Lang, and Spanish-received A’s/A+’s in 9 of those AP courses and only one B- (AP Lang). I’ve also taken 4 Honors classes-English (9H), English (10H), Biology (H), and Chemistry (H)-I’ve received A’s/A+’s in those as well. However, since I was placed in accelerated math in middle school, I took Geometry and Algebra 1. I received a B in the first semester of Geom but an A in the second semester. I also got A’s in both semesters of Algebra 1. Just a breakdown of my courses: I took 2 honors in freshman year, 2 honors and 1 AP sophomore year, 5 AP’s junior year (including Lang), and 4 AP’s and a college prep course (ERWC) senior year. Extracurricular wise, I serve multiple roles in my school’s mock trial team and have won several CRF awards, I’m the second violin section leader, and piano accompanist for my school’s chamber orchestra and have won several nominations and awards for that, was a researcher at a well-known hospital over the summer for three months, won first place in the PTA National Reflections Art Program three times, and started my small tutoring program to help individuals who have difficulties with challenging mathematical concepts and stoichiometry. Due to the pandemic, I wasn’t able to take the SAT, SAT Subject tests, or the PSAT. I’m also not the first-gen.
Please chance me with total honesty.
Acceptance Rates: UCLA 12%, UCBer 17%, USC 11%.
Those are the acceptance rates for the schools you have listed and that’s more or less what you can expect your odds to be. Some applicants will have significantly better stats and will improve their odds a few percentage points. Some applicants will have worse than average stats (for admission to those schools) and see their odds decrease.
More or less, your odds should match up with their published acceptance rates. Those schools accepts many excellent students every year, and do not accept many times more excellent qualified applicants. It’s simply a matter of great qualified applicants outnumbering the number of freshmen spots.
tl,dr - make sure you apply to other schools with better acceptance rates.
The UW is 3.96, W 4.46, and Capped at is 4.25.
Below are the UC admits stats based on the Capped weighted UC GPA but not major specific. You look like an accomplished and competitive applicant but all these schools should be considered Reach schools. Hopefully you applied widely and a solid safety school.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 38%
UCLA: 35%
2020 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCB: 4.22 (4.13-4.30)
UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.31)
Best of luck.
