Can someone please Chance Me

<p>Hey guys,
I've been attending Pasadena Community College in California for about 3 years now. I applied last fall to the UCs and a few CalStates but got got denied by all the UCs and got accepted by CSUN(which i do not want to attend). Therefore i plan on reapplying again this upcoming fall.</p>

<p>I'm not an outstanding student with specs that might get me into an IVY, I'm just a decent student looking to get into the best school possible.</p>

<p>So here it goes...</p>

<p>Age-21
Gender-Male
Location- Los Angeles, California
Ethnicity-Armenian(Considered Caucasian)
Major- Economics(I am also open to any other dual majors or minors that might be a good mix with econ)</p>

<p>My current GPA is 3.2(After Retaking my 2 F's) 77 units Completed.
My previous 2 semesters i had really messed up due to personal issues where i received 2 F's and 1 D. But I retook 2 of the F's this spring and got an A and B. I am currently retaking the D this summer and I'm pretty sure ill get an A or B. I just consider those 2 semesters to be my so called year break from college.
I began taking college courses in High school as part of a Bridge program and did fairly well and followed to do so after graduating high school until my personal issues interfered with my school.
I was not consistently a full time student through my CC career, but now I am taking everything more seriously and becoming more focused on my schoolwork.</p>

<p>I have mostly finished all my pre-reqs to transfer but received a C in my first Econ class(I am planning to retake the class at a different CC although i know it won't count towards my gpa. I just want to retake it to show myself that i can receive a satisfactory grade.)
The only pre-req classes i have left is Calculus 1 and 2 which i will be taking both this coming fall as part of a program which allows you to take both math classes in one semester.</p>

<p>I have my AA and am IGETC certified.</p>

<p>EC's and etc.:
-Economics club(Executive board member) at my CC
-Armenian Youth Organization(Organizes events and educates the local Armenian Youth)-since 2007
-Basketball Coach for Elementary School
-Been working part-time since high school
-Armenian Student Association(at my CC)
-Took 4 years of Armenian language during Highschool
-Was part of the school band during high school as a saxophonist(Frequently performed at events and even traveled out of state to perform)
-Varsity Basketball during high school
-Was part of the drama club during high school and played the lead role in our plays which was done in Armenian(my native language)</p>

<p>My parent's are immigrants who have not completed high school. So for me to go to college and complete it successfully would make me the first college graduate in my family.</p>

<p>Potential University choices:
University of Santa Barbara
Claremont Mckenna College
Pamona College
UCLA
UCSB
University of berkeley
UCSD
Pepperdine
USC
Occidental College
UCI
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Chicago
University of Penn.
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin-Madison
New York University
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
University of Rochester
University of Texas-Austin
Syracuse
University of Virginia</p>

<p>If you guys have any advice or pointers I'd really appreciate it(especially if there is any type of other EC's I can do to help better my chances). I'm open to all the help/info i can gather. Also if you guys know of any other college choices which would best fit my criteria.</p>

<p>Thanks guys!</p>

<p>I’m curious. What was your gpa when you applied and got rejected before?</p>

<p>With your current stats, I’d say UCLA, USC, UCB, Occidental, Carnegie, U of Chicago, UPenn, and most others will be reaches. It’s a shame you’re not TAGg’ed. </p>

<p>You have a decent shot at UCSB, Pepperdine, UCI, and Syracuse.</p>

<p>My gpa was 2.85 when i last applied and that’s because i had F’s in pre-requisite courses which i made up for thus the increase in gpa. I’m planning to get TAG’ed this upcoming application period for UCSB. The only part that sucks is that the new update in the TAG program now requires you the only choose one school out of the list, it no longer applies to all the schools when applying for TAG.</p>

<p>Your GPA might hurt your chances. I dont know about UC transfers tho…I agree with that1guyy that colleges beyond UCSB will be reaches. It will count on your essays and recs.</p>

<p>University of Santa Barbara- this school does not exist, unless you are referring to UCSB, which you mentioned already in the list
Claremont Mckenna College- no
Pamona College- no
UCLA- no
UCSB- not sure
University of berkeley- no
UCSD- no
Pepperdine- no
USC- no
Occidental College- no
UCI- not sure
Carnegie Mellon University- no
University of Chicago- no
University of Penn.- no
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor- no
University of Wisconsin-Madison- no
New York University- no
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities- no
University of Rochester- no
University of Texas-Austin- no
Syracuse- not sure, probably not though
University of Virginia- no</p>

<p>you need to do more research and find schools more on your level academically. the fact that you listed schools that even 4.0 CC students have a good chance of being rejected shows that you arent familiar with the admissions at these schools and havent done your research. i don’t know why you would add schools like upenn, UCB, and carnegie mellon when you were not even offered admission to CSU’s with a slightly lower GPA.
and one of the posters above is sorta misleading you about the essays and recs. sure, they are important, but that is when you have shown that you have a GPA high enough that you would able to survive academically at the school you are transferring to. with a 3.2 at community college (which is thought to be significantly easier than 4 year universities), as well as F’s, no super amazing essay or rec can make up for that.
good luck</p>
