Hey CC Community!!!
I am soooo happy to join this wonderful network of people. However, I am not looking forward to taking my SAT. I have taken it one time and my essay sucked! I got an 8 and am really hoping to get at least a 10 the second time around. I have been reading many of the posts on this site and am really asking y’all a huge favor!
Prompt: Are all discoveries the result of focusing on a single subject?
Focus is the key to discovery. Several examples from history and science help prove this statement.
In the early days of the Indian subcontinent, a royal prince, Siddhartha Gautama, was circumscribed to his majestic palace. As he escaped one day from pure boredom, he managed to view all the scenarios he was restricted to as a child. He saw impoverished slums and penniless beggars wandering the street and realized that he must end human suffering. Still a young man, Siddhartha decided to search for the abolishment of human desire. By focusing on solely this cause, Siddhartha gained a high understanding of creation and became enlightened. He went to create a religion that was primarily used to help humans gain a profound and insightful understanding of life. Thus, by focusing on his primary quest to end human suffering, Buddha had found the religion of Buddhism.
As a young man, Issac Newton was a genius. He was unlike any of the men his age and was inquisitive to a high degree. One day, when thinking about how the universe functioned, an apple fell from a tree branch high above him. He realized that the apple was meant to descend due to a force that pulled it from the tree to the ground. By focusing on the question that polluted his mind for years, Newton was able to discover the three fundamental laws by which the Earth functions. His discovery has led to other important findings that helped science progress.
Copernicus, a man who was deeply intrigued by the vast world around him, discovered that the Earth traveled around the Sun. This theory revolutionized the astronomical community and caused great disruption among scientists. So how did he discover the heliocentric theory? Copernicus was quizzical about the previous theory that stated the planets and the Sun revolved around the Earth. To disprove ths widely accepted theory, Copernicus was determined to find the true theory. By concentrating and putting in his whole effort, Copernicus discovered the heliocentric theory.
As humans, we must concentrate on one subject in otder to discover ideas that were considered beyond our depth of understanding.
P.S- I used examples that I had just thought of during the timed section so the accuracy of the statements might be off
Q: Does spelling count on the SAT?
Thanks a bunch in advance!!!
