I’ve been having a lot of trouble ranking these schools…
I want to major in business, but I see a wide range of people getting into these schools, so I have no idea if i’m qualified or not.
Please base these ranks on whether they have a good business program or not? (specifically marketing/management)
Columbia
NYU
Barnard
Villanova
Notre Dame
Emerson College
Boston College
Rutgers
Fordham University
Penn State
University of Washington
Northeastern
You need to do more research. Columbia and Barnard do not offer undergraduate business, nor does Emerson. Emerson is a specialty school in performing arts and communications. Avoid Rutgers, it is in New Jersey. Of the others NYU Stern is likely the most highly regarded. You can get a great business education at the rest though.
The AVG ACT at ND is a 33 and for the business school you will need above the average. NYU and BC are probably the same in terms of difficulty. Villanova the easiest but still very hard.
@jackrabbit14 The business school is rated #1 and is now capped. Getting in Mendoza is extremely difficult second only to Wharton. Preference is also given to Catholic high school grads.
@TomSrOfBoston
yes, I didn’t mean to include Columbia and Barnard. Emerson doesn’t have a set business program, but you can get a BA in Marketing Communications, which i’m interested in.

@BatesParents2019 do you think I would have a chance at NYU or Notre Dame?
And do you know anything about University of Washington and Northeastern’s business program?
You may want to research Loyola Maryland. Jesuit school, very strong business program (although I don’t know specifically about marketing/mgmt), located in Baltimore near Johns Hopkins (not in the downtown Inner Harbor area but just a bus ride away). Your stats would put you in the running for merit money–not automatic, but may be worth a try.
Northeastern and Fordham are both good options but you may also want to explore what Babson has to offer, since you’re interested in Marketing Communications.
I agree with @TomSrOfBoston that you really need to do your research before putting together a list of possible schools. Columbia, Barnard and Emerson do not have business schools (Columbia had a grad b-school only).
Any top MBA program would expect that you have 2-5 years of significant work experience before you apply. Therefore you should count on working before applying for MBA programs.
Agree that Lehigh is another good option, perhaps Babson and Bentley as well.
Be sure to run net price calculators to determine if schools are likely to be affordable.
@happy1 I clearly mentioned in the reply that I accidentally copy and pasted those schools in there. and yes, Emerson doesn’t have a set business program, but you can get a BA in Marketing Communications, which i’m interested in.
@happy1@TomSrOfBoston@BatesParents2019 i’ve heard Lehigh and Bucknell have good business programs, but they’re in the middle of nowhere, which is not very appealing to me.
@happy1 also, babson also does have a great business program, but it’s so purely focused on business and i’m also looking for some kind of performing arts/entertainment side in a college as well (really want to go into entertainment business/marketing)
@manns1 Well you should visit, both have great campus cultures. Lewisburg has a quaint downtown area walking distance from the excellent Bucknell campus. Lehigh is a very active campus really not far from NYC.
It seems the latest fad with college students is the big city, but the vast majority find their expectations are more romance than reality.
I second (or third) Fordham - solid business school + performing arts opportunities. You could potentially land excellent internships and should get in (possibly with merit $$) with your stats. Lehigh has BatesParents2019 pointed out is a bus ride away from NYC. What about American University or George Washington University if you’re looking for something more urban?
