Can someone see my chances of transferring?

Hello, I'm new to College Confidential, and it seems like a great place to get general information on transferring. I want to ask you guys what my chances are on getting accepted. It looked like everyone has a higher GPA than I do and still gets rejected, so I'm getting worried.

I'm applying to:
UCSD for Management Science and math/econ
UCI for Business Information Management, Quant Econ, and Bus. Econ
UCSB for Bus. Econ-Acct and Financial-Stats
UCD for Managerial Economics
UCLA for Bus. Econ
and Berkeley for Econ

My GPA is in the high 3.5's with no EC/Work Experience. I'm going into my 3rd year in CC and hope to raise my GPA continuously before I transfer. I will be finishing all pre-reqs before I transfer. I will also be doing TAG and took 2 honors classes. Should I be worrying or have some confidence in getting accepted? Any tips for me? Thanks for the help guys!

Oh and for my major pre-reqs so far I have got A's in Calc 1, Macro Econ, and Micro Econ, but unfortunately got a B in Accounting. I don't know if that's relevant, but added that for more information.

You can Tag to every school beside LA and Cal

UCLA/Cal is a crapshoot with that GPA average admit for Business econ this year is 3.9~ for UCLA and i would assume somewhere close to Cal .

That being said it doesn’t hurt to apply and maybe you’ll get in

Ya I totally agree with you there. My top choices are UCSD for Management Science and UCI for either Business Information Management, Quant Econ, or Bus. Econ. I heard my campus is in the district of UCSD so my chances are the best for UCSD. But I’m still really questioning if I can actually get in. Maybe I should focus for a CSU with a 3.5 GPA?

I think you have a great shot at every UC except for UCB and UCLA. Aim high!

I second what ^^^peterr86 and ^knightofwolf said… if you’re not aiming for a biological science at UCSD then I would think your chances are equal at UCI and UCSD. UCLA and Cal are tough, but if the application fee isn’t a deterrent for you then I would still apply and try to spice up your application wherever possible.

Along with raising your GPA a bit, definitely try to get involved in some ECs that are applicable to your major! Even if it’s just the math club at your CC or something.

Good Luck! =)

=] I feel a little more confident about applying now. I’ll definitely join a few clubs. I don’t know if that’ll effect me in any way if I join the same time I apply though =/

In everywhere but LA and B. Get some solid ECs fast(related to economics and write about how your entire outlook on life has been changed and how it’s given you a new drive and and and and…)

I’m going to UCI for Quant Econ. I’m not sure if I’d have enjoyed Bus. Info Management more, but what’s done is done.

just know that the majors are a fair bit different.
Also, screw biz econ. You can take all the same biz econ electives if you do quant econ, the main difference is that you’re skimping on qualitative analysis in favor of quantitative for your main econ series and a bit more rigor on your stats. That said if you do quant econ you’re only 2 or 3 courses away from picking up a statistics minor.

as for which schools are best.

B>LA>SD>I>SB

this is in my opinion though. It’s assuming you do, econ, biz-econ, management science, and quant econ/buz info mngmt, accounting/econ respectively. That said, in the end it comes down to YOU the individual. If you do a good job of taking advantage of your resources you’ll likely end up the same no matter where you go. That said, if you have aspirations of going to graduate school, going to a lower UC WILL get you a higher GPA which is usually what matters most.

That’s some great stuff! Thanks, I appreciate it. Why do you think you might have enjoyed Business Information Management more than Quant Econ? I’m still debating on which to put as my first choice for UCI.
