Anyone have any info on Flagler University in st. augustine florida? My mom wants me to look there but it seems really artsy and dull. am I wrong?

I guess I meant 'Flagler College' haha

I saw it once and it had a pretty campus. :)

well thats good! thanks

I have a beach house (actually, I visit a beach house, another story) about 10 minutes north of St. Augustine. The college is very quaint. It had a homely feel to me. Close to beaches, there's lots of stuff to do in the downtown, real historic, lots of different restaurants, kind of touristy because of the trolley tours, the ghost tours, but it's really a unique city. I don't know much about the college, and how it is academically, but it was in a very safe area, although as you stated didn't seem much more than an arts school. Not a bunch to do in terms of nightlife, other than dinners downtown.

thanks, hows the weather? hahaa

It's Florida, so hot, rainy, humid... but it's on the beach. Not as good as California but better than a lot of other places.

Flagler is a unique place. It is actually in an old hotel that was built by Mr. Flagler, who developed railroads in Florida many years ago. Its a grand old hotel like they used to build in the late 1800's. The students we encountered seemed to be very outgoing and enjoyed being there.

Because it is small Flagler does not have the amenities you would find at a large state college. But, also becuase it is small, you would have a very cozy and intimate atmosphere where you knew everybody on campus and they knew you.

We visited two summers ago. At the time, my son was interested in journalism. I thought Flagler could be a good spot for that kind of student, or any of the liberal arts majors offered.

If you have been reading the thread about Flagler, I think the former students are giving a pretty idea what it would be like to attend.

There are some things about the atmosphere of every college that can only be judged by visting.

thanks for the description! gnusasuraus

im from fl. lizzard says it's hot, rainy, and humid, but you'll be there during the school year, when it doesn't rain much at all. the warm weather is a plus in my book. flagler is a very small, but very beautiful school. there isn't a good nightlife in st. augustine, but it's a very pretty town by the beach with an interesting history.

I'm really interested in Flagler college too and am dying for any information. I've read all over the place that the food is really bad and expensive, is this true? Also is it true that there is no airconditioning in the girls dorms? I visited in February and they said that they were planning on renovating the girls dorms, have they done it yet? Please, anything you can tell me that's not the basics (Like I know that it's small and conservative and stuff) would be really helpful. How is their communications major? How are they with internships?

flager, conservative, I didn't know that. I don't really know much about flager college although it seems to be rising in popularity along with eckerd. In my opinion the weather is great and st.augustine is an area with tons of old people and tourist so it might be a boring place but I don't really know.

pretty good basketball team
nice beach
really hot though lots of mosquitos
expensive tourist food
really small town

My neice and nephew go to Flagler. Both wanted a small school atmosphere and applied early (easier to get in that way). Very inexpensive tuition as far as private schools go. I think room & board is very low compared to prices up north but both kids complained about the food. Both moved out of the dorms as soon as possible. Very strict policies about visitors in dorms. Campus is pretty - town tours come through on a regular basis. Very small campus. Located close to the beach, which appeals to the laid back kids. Academics don't seem too challenging. Offers about 20 majors. Bargain price esp for FL residents with Bright Futures $.
