I have not been involved with Int'l Baccalaureate during my highschool career. If I wanted to take some Int'l Baccalaureate tests, do I have to take a class, or can I just sign up and take the test?

Thanks

Not sure if IB lets you take the test without taking the course, especially because each course requires you to write an Internal Assessment. Besides, it would be suicide to do the test without preparation, since IB tests have their own 'types' of questions and syllabus for you to study from.

yea lol... do not take the tests without doing program even though i am not sure that is allowed. Because it is different and quite difficult. I am in IB right now and gifted people coming transferring to IB in grade 11 fail because they did not prepare in pre IB.

IB tests may only be taken if you are enrolled in the class. This is an IBO rule and due to the requirement that the student have so many hours of classroom instruction in the subject, and, as mentioned by previous posters, the internal assessments, external assessments and orals.
IBO is considering offering online classes. But that has not happened as yet. Check out the website at ibo.org.

How about the reverse situation-- if a student decides to enter a IB program, but had previously thought to take AP exams, how reasonable is it to still take the AP exam, even while in the IB program? I wonder particularly about Biology and Calculus...

It is very much possible to do AP tests and IB at the same time. A ton of people at my school take the AP Calc AB while in IB Math SL, and even more do the language AP exams because they are incredibly easy compared to the IB SLs, much less HLs.

It is a lot of work, though, so you have to be willing to put in the time and effort.

As for Biology, I am not certain. Bio HL is a two-year course so no one takes the AP exam for Bio because they already have an HL.

In summary, people at my school take AP exams only when they are seniors who want to earn college credit, but colleges are kinda stupid in the way that they accept AP exams yet not IB SLs.
