Can a parent of a current or former Rochester student or the student himself answer my question?
That’s a very broad question but here’s my best attempt at answering it.
First, UR does not have an official civil engineering program, but the school does allow one to “create their own major”. Another option would be to major in ME and then enter a CE field.
Having said that, mechanical engineering is a very broad field. Your career could end up being in anything from environmental/civil to automotive to aerospace industries - and anything in between; this could mean research, product development, manufacturing, project management, etc… On top of this, geographical location plays a significant role in what your salary will be, not to mention company size. So you can imagine that the starting range for someone with a bachelor’s in ME from U of R could vary quite a bit. So the best answer is probably anywhere between 40k and 80k.
Now I know a handful of people who graduated (around 2013) with a bachelor’s and work in R&D or product development in Rochester or similar cities. That starting range was probably between 55k and 70k. If you have a MS, you could probably expect that to increase by around 10k at a large company.
