This was my first time taking the ACT and when I did not know the answer to a question, I would skip it and put a dot in the ledger next to the number so it was obvious I skipped it and I would remember to come back to it. At the end of the test, I tried to erase all of these marks, but they were still pretty visible. After reading the test threads on this site, it seemed that I missed very few questions. When I got a composite of 29 yesterday based of these test threads it either means I missed a lot of easy questions that were not discussed(which I find unlikely) or that possibly my bubble sheet was mis-scored to do this smudging? Has anyone had any experience with this and could these ledger marks been more likely to cause an error than normal erased bubble marks? Thanks a lot for any help you can provide. .

Reason for editng: My misspelling in the title is annoying me and I can't correct haha so here,

"Can this technique cause a bubbling error or does everyone do it?"

I put lines all the time, and it has not effected my score.

A 29 is a good score and it’s probably not from lines. If you got like a 20 and you projected a 30+, then you might want a rescore.

If you do truly feel that you deserve better even though a 29 is already good, you can get out some bucks and have it rescored. Only time i’ve heard of a score increase is when there’s terrible smudges over the answer bubbles.

Ok, thanks. I actually thought I did extremely well on the science section but my score differed by a large amount. I made a lot of circle marks in the science section as I skipped over sections (I went 5-5-5,6-6-6,7). At the end of the test, I did not have time to erase the circle marks in the ledger next to the question number and I am just a bit worried the machine could have somehow viewed them as answers/double answers. But based on what you said it appears not. Thanks.

If you feel really confident, like your sure you didn’t misread something and what not i’d go for a rescore as I always erased the marks I made. It’s not possible to say what contributed to it, and I would like to say that the science curve is extremely steep though, like 5 mistakes is around a 30.

I would do a rescore if you can do that with ACT;
i don’t agree with cjgone; -5 on sci could not have been a 30 - no way; I left out a few, guessed on like 10, and still scored in the mid 30s. you will see posts about the October science section where several were left out and many guessed on but still good for a 30+. anyway, do whatever you think is right.
a lot of people thought science was somewhat difficult, but scored better than they thought
just my opinion
