Can transfers defer admission?

I applied for the fall as a transfer, it will be my sophomore year. However, at my college that I am at now, I just got word of a once in a lifetime, all expenses paid, study abroad affair in Greece that I was selected to go to next fall semester. I am wondering if I get accepted at Washington U, can I defer my admission to the spring semester? I looked on their web site and it didn't say anything. Does anyone here know?

call the school and ask.

I would probably wait to ask until after you are accepted, as your question might affect their decision.

The do NOT defer admissions for transfer students. I was accepted for this spring, but due to financial problem I couldn't attend and they didn't let me defer my acceptance to fall 09. However, I get to reapply with shortened application (no essay, no app. fee, no SAT scores, just transcript and rec...). They just want to see if i'm in good standing as I was when I applied for spring. "If you in good standing and reapply for fall, you're pretty much 100% readmitted," an admissions officer told me.

much of the decision for transfer students is based off of what year you are in college, what kind of courses you've taken, and how many credits will ultimately transfer to Wash U. You can't transfer as a senior, for instance.. you need to complete at least your last two years here.

That's why :
1) you can't defer transfer admission (because if you defer it and take more classes at your current school or elsewhere, that changes a significant portion of your application).
2) being re-admitted is not 100% guaranteed. while its probably likely that you will be re-admitted --- all else being equal.... it depends on how far along you are. if you are a second semester sophomore now, then you decide not to enroll and spend another semester or another year at your current school, then i don't see why Wash U would re-admit you. you are just taking more credits at your current school (or more credits through a study abroad program), and credits don't always necessarily transfer over, and Wash U would rather you spend more time here than somewhere else.
