I hv a crisis now since all the places I applied are not giving the scholarships I requested. My dad died a couple of years back n mom is ill n cant work. Without scholarships, I am doomed. I dont qualify for loans. My dad left a lot of debts with banks n now I am stuck.

My GPA I am not sure how to calculate with the APs
My school did not hv a ranking system

Do you have a shot to be a National Merit Finalist - that would be one of the easiest ways.

No I dont hv a shot. N I did not take PSATs

Wait, are you a senior or a junior?

If you are a junior:

Your best bet would be QuestBridge. Top notch schools, and if you're selected as a scholar, they pay the entire hour years.

Sadly I am not a junior. I am applying for Fall 07.

The places I applied: Drexel gave a very small aid, I cant afford to go there with tht. Case western: 0 aid. susquehanna : 0 aid.
I kept pestering drexel for more but no dice.
Can I get into college this year or ever for the matter with the way things are going?

Is there a state school you could apply to at this late date? At least the cost there would be reasonable!

I tried emailing a couple of colleges last week but none gave a positive answer. I cant even afford those 4000 fees without a scholarship.

Arizona State - they accept applications until August (?)

They would love to have a student of your caliber. I'm sure they would be willing to give you a large scholarship, even this late in the game. ASU has a very good honors program.

Check out the University of Pittsburgh, it's a world class school and they are very generous with financial aid, especially if you are out of state.

hmm... well my former bf got a nice merit scholarship to go to Arcadia University (PA) which, as a rolling admissions school, takes applicants until August 2007. Your stats are well above the average of that school so I'd say you should definitely look into it. Other schools still accepting students at this date:

Albright University (PA), Alfred University (NY), Alvernia College (PA), American International College (MA), Andrews University (MI), Anna Maria College (MA), Bridgewater College (VA), Cabrini College (PA), Canisius College (PA), Catawba College (NC), College Misericordia (PA), Eastern Mennonite University (VA), Eastern University (PA), Elizabethtown College (PA), Elms College (MA), Fairleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham (NJ), Franklin Pierce College (NH), Hofstra University (NY), Hood College (MD), Houghton College (NY), King's College (PA), La Salle University (PA), Lasell College (MA), Le Moyne College (MA), Lebanon Valley College (PA), Lewis University (IL), Long Island University: CW Post Campus (NY), Lynchburg College (VA), Marywood College (PA), Mercyhurst College (PA), Messiah College (PA), Midland Lutheran College (ME), Mississippi College (MS), Mount St. Mary's College (MD), New England College (NH), Nichols College (MA), Notre Dame College (OH), Ohio Wesleyan University (OH), Philadelphia University (PA), Randolph College (VA), Regis College (MA), Rhodes College (TN), Rider College (NJ), Sacred Heart University (CT), Saint Bonaventure University (NY), Salve Regina University (RI), Southern New Hampshire University (NH), St. Antselm University (NH), St. Francis University (PA), St. Joseph's University (ME), St. Vincent College (PA), University of Dayton (OH), University of Scranton (PA), University of the Pacific (CA), Utica College (NY), Virginia Wesleyan University (VA), Western New England College (MA), Widener University (PA), Wilkes University (PA), York College of Pennsylvania (PA)

SkyGirl, did you apply for financial aid at all? If financially you cannot afford to go to college without any aid, some school shall be able to meet at least part of your financial need. I do not exactly know how is your application strategy to comment further.

You don't figure out your GPA yourself, ask your guidance counselor or look on your report card.

You have great SAT's.

From my sons experience I can suggest schools that will offer you lots of merit money:

University Miami (my son got a full ride)
Michigan State University (has lots of $ for top students)
Tulane Unviersity
Brandeis
Boston Univ (Gives lots of $ and tells you how much to expect on their website, although we qualified for at least 1/2 tuition they didn't offer anything at all!!

The top tier schools give less money so don't bother with them.
Also try University Indiana. American University in DC gives lots of $ too. Towson in MD gives merit $ too.

Good luck but as a senior aren't you a bit late? Maybe apply for Spring 2008 admission.

Apply to big state schools who want the diversity of out of staters and then some of the good schools that are not the highest competitively.

Also, ask your guidance counselor where others got merit money from.

I second Pittsburgh. Generally, look for colleges that give merit money (some are only need based) where your SAT is 100 points higher than thier 75th percentile (or 150 if 3 sections).

What is your EFC? Did you apply to your state school?

Your stats are great!

It sounds like you got pretty burned in this whole process. In addition to the schools mentioned above, I would also reccomend investigating your local community college. CC's are generally pretty cheap and can offer a lot of interesting classes. It would also let you hang around and help out your mom out, if that's a priority for you.

You are far from doomed. Good luck!

Guys, I guess this is an old thread (frm May) but since I could not get into any college this fall, I am looking into spring admissions. The problem is I have had a hard time finding colleges that accept students for the spring intake, especially colleges that will give good scholarships for the spring intake. Can you please give suggestions of any such LACs or universities.
I am really confused right now.

I have been googling, and going through college board but still no luck

Check with your State U. Odds are they do take kids for spring admission and they're the most likely to give you aid (plus the pre-aid cost would be lowest there).

The other option would be to go to a community college for the spring or take a gap year, work or do Americorps (which would give you about $4,700 for college plus about a $200 or so weekly stipend). You'll have far better odds of getting the financial aid that you need if you go to college fall of 2008 instead of spring, 2008. It's much harder to get good financial aid as a spring admit.
