So I already signed up for 4 classes but I've seen some new GEs become available (presumably because there is a freshman orientation right now?). So, if this is the case, can I drop a class now and sign up in one of those spots recently available? I'd rather not risk trying and potentially losing my spot in my current class unless it will work.

Unless there is an explicit restriction in the course description, or unless you have unfulfilled (pre/co)-requisites, you can edit your Study List to include those classes. Note that URSA has an “Exchange one entire class for another” option to prevent dropped classes.

Thanks for the tip about exchanging one class for another but I got this error message:
This primary and all secondaries have college and/or major restrictions which you do not meet. Consult the On-line Schedule of Classes or URSA OnLine Classes and Real-Time Enrollment Counts for details.
(I got this error message three times)
So I guess enrollment is closed.

There are probably restrictions on enrollment for the class. On the Schedule of Classes, it would have Yes under “Res’t” for restriction. You can click on the Course Info (Crs Info) to find out exactly what it is. Most of the classes held for freshmen are open for everyone else on September. The exact date would be noted in the Course Info.

Fiat Lux classes, for example, are always like this. They start out as only open to first-year freshmen, then open up to freshmen, then everyone else. Popular introductory classes like Chem 20A are like that, too.
