Three or Four Classes

Fall 2012 Courses: Math 31B, Chem 20A, Engr 87
They only let us enroll in three classes at orientation. These are the three I chose, well that were essentially chosen for me. They discourage taking a fourth class but I want to take a class I find interesting, Astronomy 3. Basically what I am asking is can I get that fourth class? And if so what is the premise of Astronomy 3 is it alot of writing? I am a part of Ceed which basically picks my classes and there isn't much room for extra classes...

do you have an ursa account? why dont you try enrolling on there. everything in this school is computerized, so if you can add a class in the enrollment menu on ursa (how all students sign up for classes), then you are fine.

No it doesn’t allow me to enroll in another class it says my enrollment period has passed…

No other input???

Is it less or more than 19 units total? Because I know that the unit load is capped at 19 units.

On a side note, do you know what the advisors say about 3 classes and a fiat lux seminar (only 1 unit)?

If you’re a freshman, you can’t enroll until everyone else has finished their orientation.

For example, I enrolled in three classes at orientation 101, but I couldn’t enroll into my fourth Econ class until after September 1.

It all sums up to 17 Units.

You have to wait until classes are open for anyone to enroll (I think it’s sept. 16), and you’re fine on units.

But what about 3 classes and 1 fiat lux seminar, or does the fiat lux count as a “class”?

You can add more classes after September 18, but if your counselors are only recommending 3 classes, and you go against their advice, then don’t complain if your Fall quarter doesn’t go well because you were overwhelmed. I’m not saying you can’t handle it, but usually counselors recommend taking the minimum course load in your first quarter so you can spend time adjusting to college.

Personally, I wouldn’t consider a fiat lux seminar as much as a class, since it’s just P/NP. But it’s definitely do-able.

And also, I took Eng Comp 3, Astro 3, French 3, and Econ 1 my first quarter.
Astro 3… practically has no writing? Just some labs, but they’re kinda easy. For midterms and finals, it depends on what format your professor chooses. My professor made us do all multiple choice. Really easy.

I am taking 3 classes and 1 fiat lux class this fall, so you can definitely do that.
