Can we choose roommates in a/b, wolmans, or mccoy?

hey y’all. i’m an incoming freshman for 2023 and i’m currently filling out the housing contract. was hoping to go to AMR III building b. i have a potential roommate that i wanted to request, but in the online form, it says:

“Room assignments will then be made for the pair placing them following the random lottery process. As all first-year students can only request roommates, and not suitemates, the pair will be placed in one of our two Alumni Memorial Residence Halls (AMR I or II), as those buildings have double room configurations, instead of shared suites.”

is this a thing that means that i can’t request a roommate unless I go amr I or II? pls help.

My rising junior daughter had a roommate in mind freshman year and they were able to choose their dorm preferences. Even within suites in Wolman and McCoy you were able to go in with a roommate tho you couldn’t put a foursome together. This sounds like a new caveat. I would make a call to housing to clarify. Please note, that you may not get your first choice dorm.

It depends if it is available, I guess it is always fun to go with the flow as it is part of adulthood.
