Can we email Penn regarding our decisions?

Ok I was rejected and obviously quite disappointed, but are we allowed to email Penn regarding our decisions so that we can improve upon them for our future applications?

For eg, if my recommendations suck I could get my teachers to write them again.

yeah I would like to know as well. I’m afraid my application has a fatal flaw in it, so it would be nice to ask why i didn’t get in.

bump 10 char

i mean you can email them but i highly doubt you will get a response :(

I’ve been told that it is acceptable to call and inquire about your application. It may be best to call in January because I am sure their offices will be flooded with calls. But, just remember that your application may not have been “flawed”. There were hundreds of excellent students but only a few spaces. What makes the yes mark for admissions can vary but no one really knows. Wish you luck however things turn out!

My older brother went through this process a few years ago and he called a couple of schools…all of them said the same thing that candy mentioned. It isn’t about your stats or anything we just had a lot of great applicants. I would say don’t waste your time calling you won’t learn anything.

I’m just worried that if it’s my recommendations, it would screw up my other applications.

If you feel strongly about your recommendations then switch them. Trust your instinct.

hugedilemma: I actually know someone who was relatively obnoxious, but very bright, and the college (IVY) actually called the parents (he was a legacy) to inform them about a ‘Poison’ rec. So if you don’t know your teachers well enough to understand what they would write about you, you should make a change. Unfortunately, there are some folks whose strength is not interpersonal relationships, so it may be hard for them to assess what might be going on. Certainly a parent or guidance counselor should be able to interven on your behalf.

what can you lose, right? but wait until things calm down a bit

Wait a bit to call if you are going to do that, but don’t think that they are going to tell you a specific reason why you were not accepted.

Reconfirming your interest in Penn in a month or so with your regional admissions officer is also a good idea.
