I know UPenn is ED - and it would be my #1 choice - but can one apply EA to other schools, or will the adcoms automatically toss the application?

you can EA to other schools and just withdraw.

Yes you can, but it depends on the policy for the other school, which should be on their website. For example, you can apply to UChicago, MIT, Michigan, and Caltech while applying ED to another school but other places like Georgetown and Stanford don’t allow it.

Even to SCEA schools?

No, as I said it depends on the other school’s policy. Schools like Stanford and Yale that are SCEA state that you can’t apply early anywhere else (with the exception of rolling admissions at state schools). Georgetown is not SCEA but will not allow you to apply ED anywhere else. When you are applying to college it is very important that you have read each school’s website so you know what its policies are for test scores, early admissions, recommendations, etc.

No and same with SCEA schools

What about applying to UMich EA? Is it possible to do that and also apply ED to Penn at the same time?
