can you change your major in the begining of the year?

So I am going to apply every university and put as my major nursing and Pre physical therapy as preprofessional program., however i don't like nursing at all but my parents want me to study nursing because of the money. I decided to study instead Geology or Civil Engineering (depends which one the university offers) with the Pre physical therapy program (if i don't get a job with geology or engineering, i could always go to the physical therapy school). I don't want to tell my parents about it because I am quite annoyed that they are always telling why I should be a nurse (and also, why should i tell them? I don't think that I have too much time before the deadline of my first school ). So what I want to do is to apply as if i was going into nursing, but when college starts on the fall semester, I inmediately would change my major to geology or Civil Engineering and tell to my parents that there were not enough space in the nursing program because there was a very limited number of spaces and were selected randomly.

I don't care if its inmoral. What I wan't to know is that first, can you change your major in the begining of the fall semester of freshmen year, and if it is possible, what will happen to my financial aid or credits?

Thank you.

If you have plans to possibly go into Engineering, it may be difficult to transfer into Engineering later on. It will depend upon the school, how competitive the Engineering programs are there and if the programs are impacted. For many schools, you do not have to declare a major until Sophomore and many others, you need to apply as a direct admit to get into Engineering.
