Can you get 800 in writing w/11 on the essay?

Can you get 800 in writing w/ a 10 or 11 on the essay?

My dad believes that each point on the essay starting from 2 up is worth 20 points straight. Although the CB says that essay is worth 1/3 of the test, I could have sworn I've seen ppl get an 800 with like 80MC and 11 essay. Is there a curve when they combine MC and essay?

For ex. my dad thinks that if u get 80MC/11 essay you will get 780 and if u get 80MC/10 essay u will get 760, so on and so forth.
Discuss.

i didnt know that the essay affects the writing score...

does it??

lol, *** did you think it did?

Yes you can. I got a 10 Essay and a 80 MC and got a 800.

:)

Hey.. HiWei, is there a way you could just printscreen your scores and crop your name off and stuff. caus my dad told me i was completely wrong.

u can actually get a 9 essay and 80 MC and still get an 800 (for march at least)

Sry I'm not that techy... haha.

Tell him to trust me/you, and look on the Score threads... there are tons of them.

:)

so that means essay really doesnt count for 1/3 of the test?

nopeeeeeeeee

yes, it does, but you don't need to get 100% to get an 800.

It's possilbe to get an 800 on the writing with an essay score even lower than 11, depending upon how you did on the MC and the curve of the particular SAT version you took. The raw score on the MC is converted to a scaled score of 20-80. The MC scaled score and essay score are used to determine the overall score, using a matrix.

We have some scoring guides from some College Board practice tests that show a score of 800 for ALL the following combinations on a single test:

MC raw score 48 (out of 49), essay score of 8 or higher
MC 49, essay 8 or higher
MC 47, essay 10 or higher
MC 46, essay 10 or higher
MC 45, essay 12 or higher
MC 44, essay 12 or higher

I think the scoring will be slightly different on each test. The "real" test scoring may not exactly match what the CB has for it's practice tests, but the general idea would be the same.

P.S. Confidential, Your Dad's mistaken. I'm a parent, too, and while I hate to admit that we are all not infallible, it's the truth.

I, too, got a 10 on the essay and 80MC for an 800...

i only got an 8 my essay, but i still wound up with a 790. i guess the essay isn't worth much...

It's worth about 1/3 of the Writing score.

:)

That's way off the curve for the March SAT, and probably May. I had a raw MC score of 41, which scales 71 according to that chart, whereas in March it was a 67.

confidential, i can do the screenshot deal if you still want to prove him wrong. lol

i got 800 with 10/12 and 80/80.

The curves have just been harsher recently. You guys can use some common sense, right?

I got a 10 on the essay and an 80 mc score and got an 800

The essay is really not worth that much. The most important thing to focus on is the MC part of the Writing section.
Good luck and I hope he starts believing you =)

yea i dont know why he got all ticked off today. indian dads... guess what i have legacy into.. IIT!

of course the 800 math was expected..
