Ok so I know I've been making a lot of these kinds of threads lately but I need to know....Will major Universities still allow me to get a master's degree at their University if I have a Bachelor's of Applied Science (BAS) degree from a community college?

As always it depends on the school, but I wouldn’t recommend a BAS (or BGS) if you plan on going to grad school. Its seen as a more general (less technical) cirriculum of study.

The counselors at your CC would be a good place to direct this question, especially if you have a graduate program in mind.

No, I don’t have a graduate program in mind. I’m just absolutely desperate to get a degree and get some money, that’s all.

Well it doesn’t matter anyway. I went to my old community college today and talked to an adviser about getting into their B.A.S. program. As it turns out, I would have to go back and get another full A.S. degree in IT to be able to even get into their program. Also, because I would have to get the A.S. degree in IT first, that means that I would have to take 9 more additional classes to be able to even qualify for the program. Now because I would have to get an A.S. degree first, financial aid considers that almost like getting another A.A. and that means that I would have to pay for the 9 classes out of pocket. Then after that, when I reached the bachelor’s level, financial aid would then pay for the rest of my degree. There’s just no way, that I can afford to pay for those 9 classes out of pocket though, so I think that I’m just gonna stay at my current University.

Staying at your current university means that you are continuing to accrue loan debt? Or, are they giving you grants? If you are taking on loans then paying for the community college is on par (but cheaper tuition) than staying at the university.

You are currently on academic probation at the university which likely means that it’s going to take longer for you to get up to speed and handle the accelerated classes. I suggest you direct all of your detailed questions to an academic adviser at your current university.

Thanks ChrisTKD. I think I’m gonna go ahead and stay at my University. Otherwise, I don’t think I’m gonna be able to afford a degree.
