Can you get caught lying?

I have a family member who attened college for a year and now is applying as a new student to a college in the united states. He previously attened college in england. Can colleges find that information out? I've advised him that he can get into legal trouble but he is still admant in doing it. What are the risks of the university in the states finding out?

S.

Did your relative do very poorly at school? If so I can see why he'd want to erase his first year of college. I can't see the point of lying, but I suppose it happens all the time.

I don't know if there are legal issues. A call to a US college will probably answer that question.

The risks are the world is much smaller than he thinks it is (all they would have to do is contact his high school. Has your cousin thought about how and where he is going to get recommendations transcripts, etc).

Should he be caught (and there is a great likelihood that he will), his admission would be immediately be rescinded or he would be thrown out of school if already enrolled really screwing himself should he ever want to attend college in the U.S.

He should just tell the truth and apply as a transfer

He's planning to call it his "year off" and the transcripts and recommendations are no obstacle. The counselor from is h.s is a family friend and will not say anything. He got a 1.5 in college but in high school he had a 3.8 so i dont know what went wrong during this past year...
