Can you get more involved as a junior?

Hi all, I’m a high school sophomore living in Irvine, CA who is far behind a majority of my peers as far as being involved and prominent in the society/community. Many of them have gone to carnegie hall, composed awarding pieces, or similiarly nationally renowed in the arts, sciences, and the like.
I can’t really see a way to go out and get involved as my father lives far away halfway across the country and my mother doesn’t come home until late. Therefore, it’s difficult for me to get to a lot of places as I am unable to drive. I’m not musically inclined. I have a preference towards the biology. I love writing stories and poetry. What can I do to make myself stand out?

Have you tried the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards?

Honestly I would try to find ways to carpool…what activities do your friends do that you could also do?
Are there any clubs that meet at lunch?
Do you belong to a house of worship? You can volunteer there. One of our HS students started a “backpack” program where we provide free lunch/dinner to kids who get free lunch at school.
Can you volunteer at the hospital on the weekends?

You do you. Figure out what you enjoy.

Or can your mom pay a kid to pick you up from an activity?
