Extracurriculars & hobby ideas?

Hey guys…
So I’m a pretty average student, poor to say, but I’m working on raising my grades.
I love animals and art, but due to a lot of family issues I haven’t really had time for either.
But now that junior year has rolled around, I’ve got a position to be a reporter for the program in school I’m in related to agriscience, and plan to join some clubs. I know it’s a little late to to be joining all of these things but I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. Do you guys have any advice on what I could do for extra curriculars, or how to find a job (I’ve done dog walking last year but really don’t want to do that again)? I’ll be volunteering and trying to pursue art and maybe some other things as a hobby. Also, this summer I went away for a month to live with my grandma in Italy and made some great friends and did horse riding, but also touristy things. Next summer I’ll probably do the same thing, is there a way that I can make this into an academic experience while still enjoying my time and being a tourist and hanging with my friends there?
I’m not just doing this to beef up my college apps also, I just want to enjoy high school and achieve a lot to impress myself, nobody else but I’m really stressed about it. Also, are there any competitions or awards I could enter/apply for that you guys know of to actually achieve some impressive things? I will work on my grades and ECs this year so I can hopefully get into a top school, but I just want to make myself happy.

Its great to hear someone say that they just want to make themselves happy, not others - good for you!
As for awards and competitions, ask you guidance counselor, and maybe look into a science program like PJAS, or something like ASL.
Could you work in a refugee relief clinic or something in Italy? That could work if your grandmother lives near one.
Also, try to not over-do it with adding on ECs.
Good luck!
