As you may know, the late Steve Jobs briefly attended Reed College.

In my opinion, yes.

Whether Reed is a good college or not depends on what you care the most about.

It is:

-academically rigorous: you work just as hard or harder that students at all the other tops schools, and no matter what you major in, you will produce a thesis

-Eccentric: the students are crazy. In a do-extra-research-for-fun-have-discussions-about-Sappho-at-three-in-the-morning kind of way.

-Intimate: you call your professors by their first name, and they discuss your projects in one-on-one conferences where you tell them how you think you did and they give you their opinion and any help they can on what you wish to improve

It is not:

-Well known: Reed college is best known by people who know someone who went, or by people involved in academia. Part of this is because Reed is so very small, part of this is because it is on the West Coast, and part of this, is because Reed’s sports are intramural, so they don’t even compete in Division III for most athletics.

-easy: one of the most common monikers of Reed college is something along the lines of “academic boot camp”. This is true, true, true.

-willing to participate in list rankings of colleges: Reed has no interest in pandering to rankings such as the US News listings: they think it is a gross simplification of the process. Keep in mind: if Reed chose to participate, it would be quite highly ranked by most of the lists. Because of this, a lot of people don’t know it, and if they don’t know the reason why Reed is not included, they may perceive the school to be inferior because of this.

Does any of this help?
