<p>Some teachers and administrators believe that extra-curricular involvement plays an important role in a high school student’s social development. Therefore, our school district is considering an additional graduation requirement that students must participate in a school-sponsored club or sport for at least one season or year. Some students and parents are concerned that this requirement could create conflicts with personal obligations outside of the school day. In your opinion, should the district implement this graduation requirement?

<pre><code>In my opinion, requiring students to take an extra-curricular increases their knowledge and can be entertaining to them. Extra-curricular can be very influential to students and they can benefit a lot by taking them. Extra-curricular should be a must and ensures students to make new friends, increase knowledge, and make it more fun for each individual.

To start things off, taking extra-curricular helps students meet new people and start communicating with them. Taking clubs that others take can increase the “things in common” and have the same interests. For example, I took a club called Mathletes, a math competition club, and I made so many new friends who had the same interest as me. We were able to develop skills and make our team stronger as well as our communications skills. In addition, with new friends you can be able to get help from others. For instance, after making so many friends in Mathletes, I was able to contact them when I needed help with English homework. In a New York Times article, they said students taking extra-curricular help increase students’ social health.

In addition to making new friend, extra-curricular can help increase the knowledge level. Students who take a club they like usually end up knowing a lot about that subject area related to the club. For instance, I knew a lot about trigonometric graphing and integrating numerical values after taking Mathletes. A general statement is the more resources (clubs), the more you know and the better off you are in the future. As a result of knowing a lot, people can identify you as an intellectual person and willing to make the world a better place.

Furthermore, taking extra-curricular can be appealing and fun to many students. Students who have nothing to do in their life should decide to fill their schedule with extra-curricular. The ultimate goal of extra-curricular is to make it fun for students. For example, a Chicago tribune article said that extra-curricular decreases depression and increases confidence and determination. Extra-curricular creates the “positivity” in students’ minds and makes them more enthusiastic.

Even though taking extra-curricular takes time off the personal life of many, taking extra-curricular will increase students’ ability to learn, to help, and to have fun. Students’ personal life is better as a result of extra-curricular. You are part of the society and you will be included in any group. The benefits of taking extra-curricular are greater than the costs.

Overall, extra-curricular plays a big role in making you a better person. Extra-curricular increases the social spectrum of your life, increase the amount you know, and make you change the frown into a smile. You increase your health and your ability to enjoy your youth. Extra-curricular should be enforced in every school and should be in every student’s schedule.
