Can you help?? College search in New York

Hi

if my grades go up to a:
3.7 weighted, 2000 SAT

where can i go for biology?

anybody? i dont like to bump topics because some people get mad but this one fell down the list :(

Where in NY? NY state is pretty big. (NY city, urban, suburban)
What size school?
Public or Private?
You have good #'s, but you need to be a little more specific.

You could easily get into a SUNY or CUNY school and likely Fordham. Would have an outside shot at NYU. St Johns-Yes.

What were your CR and Math SAT scores?

I think one of the SUNY’s might be your best choice.

Can you tell us more about yourself and your college preferences?

Where do you want to go to school? In New York State? In the Adirondacks? In the Niagara Region? In NYC? Why do you want to go to school in NY (city or state)? If it’s the big city lights you are looking for the SUNYs don’t have what you want. On the other hand…

hi. i dont really have a preference as to where i go, i just want to major in biology, take classes with people that are not miserable because they are going to one of the SUNY’s or lower tier schools, and participate in AFROTC.

i have no preference for public or private…

math - 700, cr 750

Check out the rankings of some of our SUNY schools! You will get a top education at a good price. See which one has the most focus on biology and go there. Would possibly avoid Albany as it makes the top 10 list for “most unhappy students”! Oneonta is a great choice. Binghamton and Geneseo are top ranked. Daughter is at Plattsburgh as an Environmental major and thinks the academics and profs are really fine. Good luck.

I highly recommend U Rochester and Syracuse U for biology. They have very different atmospheres but are both top notch in biology.

with your stats:

 1. Columbia-high reach
 2. NYU- high reach
 3. Cornell-high reach
 4. Bard-reach
 5. Barnard (assuming you’re a girl)- high reach
 6. Hamilton-reach
 7. Fordham-match
 8. Sarah Laurence-safety
 9. The CUNY’s-safety
 10. Syracuse-safety
 11. The New School-safety
 12. Pace-safety

Since you didn’t specifiy where you wanted to go I tried to list the top/well known U’s in NY. Hope that helps some.

^ i think NYU would just be a reach.

I suggest you get a list of schools that have AFROTC on site. That would make it much easier for you. It will also shrink your list considerably. Do you need to stay in NY state? NY is a big state, as it has been mentioned and if you live in LI, going to the Adirondacks for college would be farther for you than going out of state. Connecticut schools are very close to us, much closer than most NY colleges.

So take a look at those schools that offer AFROTC on site, and then expand the list to those that offer AFROTC but at another campus. That will give you a good start.

@basketballbabe13 I don’t think NYU is a reach for just about anyone. I’ve seen kids with 2200+ scores rejected. Just check the stat profiles.

This is straight from the NYU’s website:

Average High School GPA: 3.63 (unweighted)

Ranked in Top 10% of High School Class: 72.3%

OP’s scores are good but there were plenty of people with better scores, better GPA’s and amazing EC’s who were flat out rejected.
