Can you help me find the right film school in CA?

I'm in MD right now currently planning to go to a college in CA to pursue a career in video production (camera operator or editor) within the next year or so. First I plan on going to a community college then transferring to a university. I'm not totally sure whether I should major in film studies or film production; can anyone give the pros and cons of each? I'm also not too familiar with the CCs out there. Please help me out in this process; I greatly appreciate it.

Film studies: the study of films that have already been completed
Film production: the process of making films, including cinematography (camera operators) and editing.

In most film production schools you also do film studies. But in most film studies programs, you do not get much if any production experience. From what you stated above, you want film production programs.

I don’t know much about CC’s in California, but look for posts by Kmazza who has written quite a bit about them on this forum. I think you will find what (s)he has to say very interesting.

Definitely film production, with a emphasis on cinematography and editing.

And DeAnza CC is one of the top CC’s in California with an excellent Film/TV production program:
[De Anza Film And Television Department](http://www.deanza.edu/filmtv/main1.html)

Film production is definitely a more useful major.
Some good film production programs in CA: USC, UCLA, Chapman, Loyola Marymount
