Can you just send scores to colleges, even if you've never spoken to them?

I haven't been to any college visits, interviews and the colleges I want to go to don't even know that I exist. I have to send my SAT scores soon (I'm a junior), do I just send them or do I have to tell the college my name etc before I can do it? It just seems really weird that colleges receive SAT scores from kids that haven't sent them an application.

And do the colleges retain my SAT scores when I send them? Do they file them or something?

I think that's what they do... but I'm sort of wondering about this, too. I don't know if I should send my scores to the colleges that CB gives you for free on the registration thing.

Absolutely- if its free & you want to send it go right ahead! Colleges have massive numbers of every thing sent to them. They just collect it all up under an id no. or your ss no. until they have every thing they need when you apply.
PS consider how well you did before you send the score though!
