I really wanted a single but got assigned a quad instead- I sometimes have a huge amount of trouble sleeping with noise, and even then am likely to get up and do other things until I can sleep. Obviously, that's neither really possible or fair with a roomie around.
Do you think I can petition their decision? I don't know how much help it would be. :S

I don’t think you can now - but if you give it a try, and your rooming situation really isn’t working, talk to your RCA about it. There’s a good chance you’ll be able to work things out with your roommate. Since you have a quad, keep in mind that you get to decide who actually shares a room in that quad, so talk to your roommates about your sleeping habits and maybe one of them won’t have a problem with it. Also, your quad most likely has a common room, so if you need to get up and do other things until you can sleep, you can go into the common room so as not to disturb your roommate. My freshmen year, my roommate was fine with going into the common room to work when I wanted to go to sleep, as I have trouble falling to sleep when there’s any noise or lights. Also, consider getting earplugs. Even though I had a single last year, I was right next to our common room, and so the noise from the common room would sometimes keep me up. Earplugs helped a lot.
