Can you rank these AP classes from easiest to hardest?

I am going into my freshman year of high school soon, and I'm starting to pick out all of my high school classes until I graduate. I want to try to take as many AP classes as possible, but I want to know which ones to take so I don't burn myself out. I also want to know which ones are worth taking, and which ones I should definitely avoid. I really like math, and it's probably my strongest subject. I'm also pretty interested in science. My worst subject is probably social studies, but that's mostly due to the fact that my current teacher's methods don't work that much for me. I still get an A in the class, but I have to try a lot harder than other subjects like math.

The AP classes I'm interested in are:

Art History (Grades 10-12 Y) I honestly would only take this for the college credits. I honestly suck at art, so that might be a huge problem.

Biology (Grades 11-12 Y)

Calculus AB/BC (Grade 12 Y) I want to do BC since it is the more advanced one, but AB would be fine too. I heard BC is sort of like an honors of an honors class.

Chemistry (Grades 11-12 Y)

Computer Science A (Grades 11-12 Y) I really want to take this class because I am interested in programming and learning about computers.

Economics (Grade 12 S) Economics is required anyway, so I can either take it regular or AP.

English Language and Composition (Grade 11 Y) I only want to take this if it will count for the senior requirement of composition and literature or if it can substitute for English 11.

Human Geography (Grades 9-12 Y) This is the only AP course available to freshman at my school. I can't take it my freshman year though because I already turned in my course selection sheet, however I'm planning on taking it my sophomore year since I don't have any required social studies courses that year. My cousin took it her freshman year and said it was the hardest class she's ever taken, but I've heard it's one of the easiest AP classes.

Physics C, Mechanics (Grade 12 S)

Physics C, Electricity and Magnetism (Grade 12 S)

Psychology (Grades 11-12 Y) I am honestly really interested in taking this class. It just seems like a cool thing to learn about. :P

Statistics (Grades 11-12 Y) If this class is easy, I will probably take it my junior year while I'm taking Pre-Calc/Trigonometry. My senior year though I'm planning on taking AP Calculus BC, and that's probably a lot harder. I think it would be easiest to balance AP Stats and Pre-Calc/Trig than AP Stats and AP Calc BC. But if it's too hard, I probably won't take it at all.

US History (Grade 11 Y) I can either take US History regular or AP.

US Government (Grade 12 S) I can take this regular or AP, too.

Those are all of the AP classes I might want to take. I know there's a lot, but I won't take all of them. If my school had an AP World History, I'd definitely want to take it because I love learning about different cultures.

Thanks for reading all of this! :D

From easiest to most difficult:
Human Geography
Art History
Psychology
Statistics (it’s more rule-following and explaining yourself than pure mathematics)
Now there’s a big jump in difficulty here…
Biology
US History
Economics
US Government
Calc
Lang & Comp
Computer Science A
Chemistry
Physics C

Finally someone who is as crazy as me and already making a four year plan even though we’re not even in high school yet. What are you taking this year? I’m not going to be much help here, but from what I’ve heard (not in order)
Human geo- really easy
Psych- really easy
U.S History- hard, lots of work
Art history-easy, boring
Physics- really hard
Chemistry- really hard
Bio- medium-hard
Stats- apparently really hard at my school, but really easy everywhere else
Everything else, I haven’t really heard much about
Sorry I’m not much help!

i’ll just put in my opinion for what i see as hard - Chemistry , Physics C , Calc (If you’re not a math person) , English Language (If you’re a bad writer)

US history is tedious but easy, same with bio

Thanks everyone! karmacharma next year I’m not taking any AP classes, but hopefully I will be in honors geometry, English 9 honors, and honors biology. I go to a private school currently, but for high school I’m going to a public school. Even though I’m in honors at my school, I might not get into honors for high school. :frowning: But so far I have finished the requirements for honors geometry and English! As long as I keep getting good grades and I do well on the state standardized tests coming up soon, I should be able to get in! I don’t know if I’ll be able to get into honors biology because one of the requirements is honestly impossible for me to fulfill. :frowning: I needed to get in the top 5 percent on the standardized tests we already took, but we only took it for math and English. Hopefully I’ll be able to get into honors science when I’m a sophomore though. :)

What are all of the classes you’re taking? I wasn’t sure if you were wondering about honors classes only or all of my classes in general, so I just put my honors ones so I wouldn’t bore you to death xD

The compsci curriculum can be learned in 4 weeks. Apush is easy. Chem and calc aren’t really terror, require ~30min hw/day. Euro is hard as … Can’t comment on the rest.

If you aren’t interested in art I’d probably skip art history, and spend your time on Psych since you’re more interested in that. I’m taking BC Calc and AP stats this year together, and stats is really easy as long as you keep up with it. AP Bio is also really easy, especially since you get the basics down as a freshman. I took AP Chem and AP Physics without corresponding lower level courses, so content wise they were tough but not impossible. AP Lang/Lit are difficult as far as the AP goes, but they’re mostly high volume of reading/writing more than tough concepts. It’s a bummer you don’t have World, because that really was a cool class, so then Human Geography is probably a good idea for sophomore year. I would pick either Econ or Gov, since you’re thinking math/science at this point I wouldn’t bother with both. One last thing: don’t forget to leave enough room in your day for EC’s and sleep! Hope this helps!

We don’t have world either
Well, in our school you can enroll in any class you want to enroll in (at least for this year, for AP there will be requirements) so I will be doing geometry and biology honors. I’m not a bad math student, but I’m horrible at geometry haha, so I hope I make it xD
Unfortunately my school doesn’t offer English honors, the only honors that it offers that I’m not taking is Spanish II honors, because I’m…not that talented in Spanish :3
I’m also taking Film Photography
Well, good luck to us for next year!!

karma your classes seem cool  Film Photography sounds really fun too! The only fun electives I’m taking will be Theater Arts my second semester. I’m doing French 1 instead of Spanish 2, though :stuck_out_tongue: My school doesn’t have any honors foreign languages, but when you get to the 4th year, it counts as an Advanced class which I believe is pretty much like an honors class. I know it will count towards a weighted GPA  And Spanish 5 is AP only. I’m took Spanish in 7th and 8th grade, but the teacher is honestly pretty bad and we won’t even know half f what we need to know for Spanish 2. I’m taking French in high school though, so I don’t care xD I’m okay in Spanish (I get A’s in it) but only because the teacher honestly doesn’t do anything LOL xD The only grades we have each quarter is a few vocab quizzes.

My school has summer school to get some classes out of the way. Freshman can take speech, one semester of P.E., ancient world history, and modern world history. You can only take two, so I’m taking speech and P.E. I still have to take P.E. my second semester though  And then in my first semester I’m taking ancient world history, modern world history, and world geography (which is actually an elective) xD I’m really stupid for picking three histories in one semester, but at least I won’t have to worry about history until junior year :3 Unless I take AP Human Geo my sophomore year, which I think I’m gonna do. Then my second semester, I’m taking Computer Applications 1 and Theater. I don’t really know if Computer Apps 1 is available second semester… I hope it is though because I already turned in my course selection sheet :3

Yeah, good luck to us xD

Oh yes same, I don’t understand Spanish at all because of my teacher, but I’m just going to tough it out xD
Summer school, wow! The only thing we can take in the summer is geometry, which I was considering, but because I’m really bad at geometry I want to sieve more time on it to build a foundation, and if I skipped it I’d have to go into Algebra II, which is a regular class, because apparently Algebra II honors is really hard.
P.E is only required freshman year, then you need 10 more credits, but you can do seasonal sports instead of P.E.
oh, I’m probably taking AP Euro Sophmore year. I hope you enjoy history then, haha.

In my state the only required P.E.s are two semesters in your freshman year and a semester-long health class xD Those are literally the only ones required XDD Oh, how I love the state of Indiana’s simple high school requirements. For math I have to take at least Algebra 1 (which I’m taking now), Geometry (9th grade), Algebra 2 (10th grade), and 2 other math credits :stuck_out_tongue: but I want to take Pre-Calc/Trigonometry in 11th grade and AP Calc in 12th grade xD I also want to self study some AP classes to pass the exams and get college credits  I’m only going to do really easy ones and they’ll probably be in my freshman and sophomore years since I won’t be taking any AP classes those years. I want to self-study AP Music Theory, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, AP Statistics, and maybe AP Art History. Well, I don’t know what else to talk about, so I’ll just end this here xD

rosie416, in my state we have to take both Econ. and Gov. I want to take both of them AP, but I’m not sure if I’d be able to manage that :stuck_out_tongue: But one thing my friend said is that his older brother is doing is taking Econ. regular but self-studying for the AP exam. I think that’s a good idea  I’ll follow your advice on not taking too many APs cause EC is pretty important for colleges. Thanks :D

In my experience, the hard ap classes have the highest scorers (doesn’t apply to language ap’s). If your school lists the stats for AP performance, then take a look @ that. In my school, BC calc is the hardest class for most people, and everyone passed the exam last year, with 90% 5’s.

It is really different for each school but I would say… (from easiest to hardest)
Human Geography
Art History
Statistics
Economics
Psychology
Language
Government
Biology
APUSH
Calc AB
Physics C
Calc BC

Lucky with the PE requirements! We have to do two years and health. Our math is like that too, though.
I heard AP music theory is torture, so I would probably abstain from taking that. You play an instrument?
I’m thinking of taking AP pysch Sophmore year because my school offers it

It always varies between schools, check how hard the teachers who teach the courses are…could drastically change the ranking. Based in general I guess…

–Easiest–
Human Geo
Psych
US Govt
Comp Sci
Art History
Economics
English Lang
Biology
Statistics
USH
Calc AB
Chemistry
Physics
Calc BC
–Hardest–

Human Geo is actually kind of hard at times, but its easy because so many freshmen take it the curve is then insane.

@karmacharma Ikr! My school has a lot of other PE classes though, like two more healths and even a weightlifting class xD I am pretty involved in music  I have played the violin, the piano, I taught myself the cello, I played percussion in the school band, I currently play the clarinet in the school band, and I taught myself a few songs on the guitar. My piano teacher gives me theory homework, and although I hate having to do it every week, I know it will help me a lot on the exam :D

You should definitely take AP Psych! My school only lets Juniors and Seniors take it, which sucks :frowning: Maybe I can self-study it before then  But I know I’m going to self-study for Music Theory for sure since my school doesn’t offer it :’(

@gnastygnorc What is a curve? :o I think I’ve heard of something about it when I took the SATs a few months ago, like sometimes your score can be changed a little based on the curve of others taking the test with you. I don’t get it or know how it works though XD I might self-study Human Geo as a Freshman or maybe take it Sophomore year. Probably Sophomore year :P

@LosingCrayon

Its when they make the grades based on the average scores pretty much. So most of the grades will be a 3, the second most 2s and 4s, and the third most 1s and 5s. Here are all the latest curves: http://tjung92.files.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2010/08/most-ap-exam-curves-as-of-2011.pdf</a> but it changes every year.

I’ve been playing the violin for about 9 years xD do you do ABRSM? I passed that theory exam a couple of months ago. If that’s the one, it’s not too hard :)
