I have sent in my SAT, and I want to send my ACT as well. However, the best score I've made on the ACT was without writing. Since I've sent in the SAT, can I send in my best ACT even though it is WITHOUT writing? Or do I need to send the lower score that has writing? Or do I send both? If I send both, will they look at the best ACT and only look at the writing score for the lower score?

Many schools require only one writing score, from either SAT or ACT, be on file so that any ACT scores from no-writing sittings will be considered if you have sent something that does include writing. This is often not made clear on the admissions website, or even mentioned. I do not know Harvard’s policy. Call their admissions office and ask. They do say they allow score choice, so if they consider the SAT writing score enough, then it should not be necessary to pay $12 to send the low ACT score, but just send the better one without writing.

@threedivided - my daughter applied last year and only submitted her SAT scores as her ACT was without writing (it’s mandated in our state and this was the only reason she took it). However the ACT score was on her Common App and high school transcript - Harvard then contacted her and asked for an official score report. I was surprised but it appears Harvard felt the score was important enough to include in her application. I would recommend you go ahead and request a score report, if you’ve met the minimum requirements with the SAT, and think it would be to your advantage.
