Hi everyone! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is it possible to study for the SAT? Is it that kind of test where it simply measures skill and aptitude and therefore requires no studying? Or is it based on knowledge? What about the act?

I wouldn’t necessarily say study, but you can definitely prepare for it.

I took my SAT for the first time after AP tests. I had a few weeks to “prepare” and what I did was basically take a bunch of practice tests from College Board’s blue book and my SAT score ended up being 200 points higher than my PSAT score.

I recommend practicing a little bit everyday. I know a lot of friends who would dedicate a Saturday every week to taking an entire 4 hour SAT in one sitting and that didn’t help at all. What I personally did was practice a section every day (i.e. math, reading, writing… approx 50-60 questions) and timed myself and that proved to be effective. Stamina shouldn’t be a problem if you manage to make yourself comfortable with each individual section.

I didn’t take the ACT, but I can definitely say the SAT is mostly based on reasoning. If you’re incredibly smart you can ace (or nearly ace) your SAT the first time, but if you consider yourself average/above average in intellect, you should definitely value the opportunity to “familiarize” yourself with the SAT via practice tests. You should also definitely study vocab and basic grammar rules.

Definitely possible! If it weren’t, I definitely would not have raised my score from a 1980 to a 2330…

It’s not really studying the material on it though, it’s more studying how to take it. Just do lots of practice tests.

And the act?

Dang Satman1111, congratulations. That’s a great increase.
