My D has been accepted into Tulane and is seriously considering the university.
Would she be able to use courses that satisfy the core proficiency and distribution requirements as well as additional requirements towards her major?
An answer from current Tulane students or recent graduates would be much appreciated.
Can you use proficiency and distribution requirements as well as addl requirementstowards your major
Also, can the same course be used to satisfy different core areas at the same time?
Example: INTRO TO PUBLIC HEALTH
Course Restrictions: Open to Undergraduate
Attributes: Social & Behavioral Sci 2018, Writing Tier-1 2018
Tulane mom. I’ll try to answer. My son is a freshman. Yes, you can select courses that satisfy several core areas at the same time. My son took a philosophy course last term that satisfied 2 or more requirements - I can’t remember what they were. If your student is non-honors, my understanding is that some TIDES courses satisfy the tier one service requirement. For those in the Honors program, those students have to find a tier one service course outside of their honors colloquiums. There is also a tier two service requirement. My son had mapped out all the courses he had wanted to take - however he had to adjust therm when the course he had intended to take were closed or conflicted with other courses. Your student just needs to be flexible. Best of luck with her decision.
