Does anybody know how to convert canadian averages to US GPA's? I don't think the scales are the same. I have about an 85% canadian average. Thank-You

that's about a 4.2-4.3 on 4.0 scale, i got 84 :(

is that considered good then?

it's good i guess but it really depends on which school you go to. i guess that's where SATs come in to help evaluate a student. Say kid at private school has 95% average and he got 1340 on the SAT I and low 600s on the IIs
and another kid at public school got 84% average and got 1400 SAT I and high 600s, obviously the private schools sell their grades. so you can't really evaluate a person based on average, however, it'll assist in admission but not too much. If you were in public school, id say 80%+ is pretty good, it's like a 4-5 on AP test. So, chill, you'll be fine! where are u from? which school you go to?

im from St. Catharines, Ontario and I go to St. Catharines Collegiate, which is kinda like an inter city public school. It has a large immigrant population and i guess the graduation rate is pretty low. There is ALOT of diversity within the school. It is not known to send alot of students to high quality universities. Its more like "get your 4 years of education and then go get a job"? My class rank is about 20/90 but I think that my major hook to get into an american university will be my talent in the sport of lacrosse. Is this overall a good or bad thing for me.

I have ~94. Am I in the league for any of the ivies? There are only a few people at my school with 95's, btw.

ha my school has 1 person in 90%s out of 300+, and like 30/300+ in the 80%s and about 180 in the 70%s. but out of the 30 in the 80%s only about 10 are taking the most rigorious courses, and my school doesn't rank, so it's fking unfair. Anyway, i think greenbean, you are fine and jcm_18, your class only have 90 students???

Thanks Newbybron. I wasn't sure since pretty much everyone at my school applies to Canadian schools. By the way, my class only has ~65-70 people!

Mine is currently ~ 97.3, but my guidance counselor equated it to 3.83 when he sent out my admission to Stanford. I have no idea what he was thinking (since they allow you to use the percentile system, and Canadian averages don't have the weighted/unweighted evaluation ).

oh, it also depends on which province and school board you are from, they all grade differently, i had a 83-84% and i had 4.0(uw) and a 4.1(w)
so yeah and my class(i mean grade here) has 300+ students

97.3 is really high. Are you at the top of your class applesatyr? The highest average in our school is around 95.

Hehe...no way. I'm ranked (unofficialy, b/c only the top 5 or so students know their ranks) 2/132. The highest grade is about 98.1 or 98.4. I forget. Anyway, I just hope I can keep it up this year. Once the SAT test taking is over, I can devote all my time to raising my grade.

I have around a 95 average, and my school converted that to a 4.0.
Newbyreborn, I find it puzzling that you believe private schools inflate marks. In my experience it has been the public schools that do this. But then, I suppose it depends on the individual schools and the region. (I am from Toronto, by the way.)

I agree with kitkattail. The marks at the public schools in my region are quite a bit more inflated than ours.

I am from toronto too, a classmate in Ajax had like 70ish% average, went to private school and now, she has 93.5% average. and she told me sometimes, when they don't do well on tests, their teacher sometimes overlook 1 or 2 of the tests.

yes, fellow Canadians. applesatyr, your guidance counselor calculated the GPA wrong (3.83 would infact be a 93.3 % average). You, like your other friend (and me :D) have achieved 4.0 status. And believe me, the Canadian curriculum is considered more solid than the American (sorry, no disses intended). Although I'd like to advocate a better English curriculum, Canadians suck at that.

Newbyreborn: That's very interesting! What private school does she attend?
Also, is it possible that her marks improved for some other reason? She worked harder, or her teachers were better, or she received more extra help outside of class?

what would a 87 or 88 percent cumulative average in high school equal to in US GPA?

a 4.3-4.4/5.0 (our GPA is like their AP i think)

Newbyreborn, why is our GPA is like their AP?

I have a 92 average, which is the 2nd highest in my grade of 290...
