<p>Is it possible to transfer from a Canadian university such as Waterloo (computer science major) to an Ivy League university? (I'm thinking of Stanford.)</p>
<p>Could someone please list the process of how this works? Can I do this after only one year at Waterloo? What are the most important factors, such as grades, school involvement, etc.</p>
<p>Stanford isn't Ivy and you probably don't really want to go to an Ivy anyway. Waterloo is the MIT of Canada and for CS, you are not gonna get anything better in any of the Ivy. Stanford is great for CS but I agree with T-80 Box's suggestion. Waterloo is much cheaper than Stanford while it's providing comparable program, at least at the undergrad level.</p>
<p>Thanks for backing me up, Sam Lee.
But seriously, Gary King, I really don't understand why you would actually want to transfer from Waterloo to Stanford during your undergrad. I mean, as far as I know, Waterloo is really good for undergrad engineering.
Why do you want to transfer?</p>
<p>i totally agree
waterloo is a very good school
you're just paying more to go to stanford
and by calling stanford an 'ivy league' im not sure that you know what you're getting into</p>
<p>Oh yeah.........Transglobal Spectacle..... I agree.
The fact is, Gary King, that u need to research very carefully what u try to do. I really hope u don't take offence, but if u call Stanford an Ivy League, man....... u have a lot of homework to do!
Ok, its true that lots of "experienced" people can't name the eight Ivy League colleges. Infact, (you'll like this), the admissions counselor at my school actually thought MIT is Ivy League. Not only did he say it on several occasions, he actually WROTE it in a letter to parents telling them about US college admissions. LOL. LOL.</p>
<p>The reason we're all latching on to ur mistake (calling Stanford an Ivy League College) is that u should know very well what ur heading into. U should RESEARCH a lot. U should consider why u want to transfer. So many guys at my high-school in Pakistan waste their time and money applying to ("Ivy League" colleges like Stanford and MIT and Harvard.... ;) ) and they never get in. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Waterloo is a really good school.
But then again...... u know ur situation better than us. So if u have good reasons for wanting to transfer to Stanford AT THIS PARTICULAR STAGE (i.e. under-grad), then go ahead. Give it a try. Good luck. By the way, please share ur reasons with me, if possible.
Stanford is a very VERY selective school, and when it comes to transfer admissions, God help u! So it makes no difference if Stanford is Ivy League or not---in terms of admissions.U MUST do ur homework before applying. Beacuse u could be spending valuable time at Waterloo trying to transfer to Stanford when u could be studying and making a cool under-grad record which would be ABSOLUTELY necessary if u apply to Stanford for post-grad studies (Masters degree) after graduating from Waterloo.</p>
<p>Sounds like I'll be doing my undergraduate at Waterloo and my graduate at Stanford, then.</p>
<p>I suppose Stanford is good for a graduate school? Waterloo is a good university and all, but frankly, I like the weather, the city, and the environment at Stanford a whole lot more. But I guess that's for graduate studies time, then.</p>
<p>^^ don't worry, me at u of t want to go to US too, i got rejected in freshman year, but meh, i got some scholarship and with a little more, i have enough application fees for 3 schools (~$200)
good luck</p>
<p>lol, I like the way u put it "Sounds like...."</p>
<p>Plz do not, DO NOT, give up the idea just because a couple of people here told u to.
If u can find the time and energy for a serious transfer attempt to Stanford (SERIOUS, as in giving it all u've got, not just donating $60 to the Stanford admissions department as ur admission fee :)), then go ahead. Do try it out. But u'll need really AWESOME high school stats if u try a transfer.
Think of how hard it is to get into Stanford as a freshman. Multiply that several times over and u'll see how hard it is to get into Stanford via transfer. This is because there are very limited seats available at Stanford for transfer people. What r ur stats in high-school? Ur SAT scores? They can give u an indication of whether or not its worth applying to Stanford for a transfer. So what kind of stats did u have?
REMEBER THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING TRANSFER ADMISSIONS FROM WATERLOO TO STANFORD.
It depends on
a) whether u really weant it to happen
b) ur academic record (and extra-curricular activities)</p>
<p>Good Luck, Gary. And if u've got any more questions, go ahead : shoot.
