Just wondering if anyone knew anything at all about these two schools, and whether they offer financial aid and/or scholarships to American applicants. Also, it would be lovely if you could let me know of of any other good Canadian boarding schools (coed or all-girls) :) Thanks.

Havergal and Bishop Strachan are the two best all girls schools in Canada. I think it’ll be difficult to get a bursary or merit scholarship for an American or foreign applicant. Unless, you have some extraordinary skill or situation. Most times, its not whether you’re qualified for the school but can you give reason why the school will admit you, or give FA or merit money.

ridley and appleby both have reps as great schools. ridley is, from what i’ve heard, academically grueling. however, i should warn you – FA for internationals, unless it’s an athletic scholarship, is highly unusual at canadian boarding schools. you’ll probably have more luck with US boarding schools when it comes to FA.

Thank you for your replies Do you think it would be worthwhile to apply to a Canadian school (keeping in mind that I will need a lot of financial aid)?

Hey Futureboarder. Looks like you’ve found some good advice in this thread. I work at Appleby and have had a lot of friends attend Ridley, so I can vouch for both schools. Both have good financial aid programs, but most of Appleby’s financial aid goes to local day students, so Ridley is a better choice if you’re not Canadian and are looking for a large financial aid package. Appleby has a much larger day student population, whereas Ridley has a higher percentage of boarders. Both are diverse schools with great academic and extracurricular programs. Appleby has a much better location and a great new Global Leadership Diploma. Ridley is introducing the IB (International Bacclaureate). Your best bet is to tour the two schools and make up your mind afterwards.
