Canadian Student...

hi, first post..

first of all, I'm a student in Canada [getting my US passport soon], and I want to get into a UC school, or other good Universities across the U.S.

My first question is, is it worth going back redoing some grade 10 work to bump those marks up, do they even care??

Me applying for a BBA, what main courses to universities look at, and in what years of school [ex. gr 11, early gr 12...etc..]

And lastly how should I start studying for my SAT's and what mark am I looking to get??

just out of curiosity...are u from Dubai? (if not,, my bad.)

Canadian citizen or resident? CDN citizens don't really need a visa to study in the US.

I may not be understanding your questions correctly, but things do work differently in the US as far as applying to colleges.

Your GPA (grade point average) will be looked at for 9th -- 12th grade (first semester). There are a few schools that do not look at 9th grade, but if your school uses those grades to figure class rank -- it will make a difference.

It would be unusual for a student in the US to repeat work in a grade and receive a higher score -- if it is done, it is noted on the transcript, and would usually only be one class under a special circumstance. Most students do their best the first time around and focus on their next year of classes. Unless you are talking about repeating 10th grade? Or are your referring to the 10th grade Canadian tests? I am not sure those are even looked at.

If you are looking to apply to a business school -- they look at all the grades. More selective schools look at how rigorous your course selection was (did you take the toughest classes offered at your school), how well you did in those classes (both the individual grade and how well you did in comparison to your classmates), what your test scores are (SAT I and SAT II for many selective schools) and what Extracurricular activities you participated in. Teacher recommendations will also play a big part of your college applications.

I am not sure exactly how the UC systems works, except that it works differently.

Hello. I am a Canadian student at UCLA. The UCs stress your Grade 10/11 marks, and also look at the strength of your Grade 12 coursework (but not marks), while ignoring your Grade 9 marks. I think you should shoot for an SAT I score of ~2150 to stand a good chance at UCB/UCLA as an international applicant.

You should probably get some SAT review books (princeton review, kaplan etc). The practice test were really useful. UC schools look at your freshman and senior grades, but don't take them into account when calculating your GPA.
