Canadian students applying to Harvard?

YAY! CANADIANS ON CC! I'm from BC, myself.
ive been browsing the boards for a while & finally found a bunch of canadians :D
[im not that new on CC, for some reason it wasnt recording all my posts... so it looks like ive only posted twice]
Im hoping to apply to stanford & harvard, mainly, next year & im wondering how you all prepared for the SATs.. did u take classes or study indepdently?

bumpbumpbump

bump.. anyone still here?

Hey guys, how did your interviews go?

^^ im still a junior.. wait.. grade 11.. damn american talk haha
but how was yours?.. and is the system any different for canadians?

Interview went well. He was really nice. I don't have much hope for Harvard though, 99.9% (or more accurately, 94.5%) sure I'll get a big fat REJECT come April 1st.

Did you guys all have your interviews already? I still haven't been scheduled one. Think I should call?

I knew a kid last year who went to a pretty normal public school in mississauga (large asian and south asian population in the school though and grades are deflated, ie. getting a 90 in English is suppose to be extremely hard). Anyways he got into Harvard, Princeton, and Oxford. Chose Princeton above them all.

Care to back it up with evidence? An Elaboration would be nice lol because I doubt that would occur during such current affairs in which the class of 2013 is applying.

wow.. i just found this thread. Everyone is amazing!

I also applied to Havard, but im I honestly dont expect much.

Ambitiousteen, are u from Toronto?

anyone apply to university of miami?

getting in for the class of 2013 will be harder than 2012, but that does not disqualify his acheivements. I knew the guy and read his acceptance letter, because even though I thought he was a very able student, getting into harvard from mississauga is pretty unheard of.

GL to you all!

I'm not from Toronto, so I'm curious as to why it's unheard of for someone from Mississauga to get in. Isn't it just a massive suburb?

Well very few ppl get in from Mississauga. Toronto, with all the elite private schools, seems to be where its at for top ivies HYP. Other places also send a few to the ivies regularly such as Victoria, BC as well as out East. I believe he was the first from his school (which is a competitive school) to go any Ivy.

I can't believe I never saw this thread!

Anyway, Mississauga/Toronto here. Hi y'all :)

TORONTO1, the person you were talking about, is he/she from Glenforest? I'm asking because GFSS has IB/enhanced.

it was either glenforest or gordon graydon:S I always mix up the two and I believe both have IB/enhanced.

What school do you go to?

haha were any of u guys at deca provincials this year?

Haha, Gordon Graydon has IBT. Not an internationally recognized programme, but definitely the only one around in Mississauga.

I did grade 9 and 10 at Glenforest enhanced, watching my friends do IB.. then I decided I wanted to do IB, which GFSS wouldn't let me do without pre-IB in grade 9/10, so I switched schools into Toronto.

So yes =)

How about you?

Out east? I'm going to guess that means Montreal. My interviewer said that on average, 25-30 Atlantic Canadians will apply and maybe one will get in, although it's often none and the most has been four in one year. No quota's, but I guess that's how things go.

COMPILED FROM THE NON DEFINITIVE LIST OF HARVARD MATRICULANTS
02138 - December 2008

For the class of 2012, there are 35 Canadians
assuming Canadian yield rate is about the same as the overall rate and that this survey might have missed a few, that means the number accepted is probably in the high-40s

going further...
12ish from Toronto and surrounding region
5 from vancouver
2 from victoria
2 from montreal
1 from ottawa
1 from halifax
