Canadian students applying to Harvard?

That can't be right; my interviewer told me that there are around 10/year from Alberta+Saskatchewan+Manitoba alone.

The list seems to be only the students who are matriculating. This is because it shows that one person got in from my school, but in fact she got in two years ago and took a year off last year. So in fact the number of people who got in is greater than the number totaled from that list.

Sorry to diverge from the discussion, but did everyone get an interview yet? I still haven't received one though other people from my school have (who also applied this year). Should I be worried?

The number of private schools/nationally known publics is staggering. Ouch.

hey blue_sky, unfortunately, I think interview period is over. I remember my interviewer saying something about all the reports having to be submitted by March or something. But, there's no reason to worry because they know they can't possibly interview every single applicant, so they won't disadvantage anyone who didn't get interviews.

Illuminar, I'm going to assume you're the same person on SA?

OMG 1 more month!

Yep, same person.

Almost all of you seem to be applying from large urban centres. Am I the only one applying from a semi-rural town?

Harvard seems to be an extremely hard college to get into. What would my chances be if I was getting straight 7’s (IB), perfect 2400 on my SAT’s, and was student council president and president of chess club. As well as getting perfect scores on Pascal, Fryer…Euclid. On top of this I would have multiple newspaper publications and have volunteered as a research assistant at U of T.

I haven’t accomplished any of this, yet, just wondering what would stand out to Harvard Admissions Offices.

Bump, bump, bump.

I wonder how many Canadians apply to Harvard. Does anyone know?

no pm89 you’ll get rejected straight out the first cutoff.

how many canadians did harvard accept this year?

Ottawa/// woah

Hello ladies and gents.
Any applicants from small towns present?
Think central Canada.

And a compilation of the total number of applications and their location from Canada should be added to the first post in this thread if available, along with Canadian applicants to other Ivy Leagues.

Post info here to help it along if you plan on applying (Location/School).

Hey I’m from Saskatchewan and I am hoping to apply to Yale, Columbia and possibly Harvard. I’m pretty sure that I will be the first one from my school to be applying to big schools in the states. Even though I am the top student (1/210) in my grade and am hoping to score over a 2000 on the SATs, I really do not think that I stand a chance haha. As many of you have said, most Canadians who apply to Harvard go to private schools, or public schools in big cities that enable them to take AP courses or the IB program. As these courses are not available in any school in my city, I feel as though I am at a huge disadvantage.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

There are two that started there this year one from Halifax and one from Cape Breton. Oh and one from QB. Am sure there are more…

Hey fellow Canadians :P

I happen to be a Canadian living the US. I’m ranked 3rd in my class and am taking 6 AP classes (hopefully I’ll get 5s :D). My SAT score is 2380. I have a bunch of EC: Pres of Bio club, Pres of Quiz Bowl, OMFA piano Diploma 2008 Winner, volunteer at Windsor Kiwanis Music Festival (300 hrs), MERIT (research at Henry Ford Medical Center), volunteering at hospitals (Henry Ford). What are my chances of getting in Harvard/Ivy? And when I apply, will I be compared to Canadians, to people in my region, or to people of my ethnicity? RSVP!!!

lol interesting. does anyone know how many canadians were accepted into harvard, say in for the class of 2013 or 2012? I distinctly recall seeing a site with those stats, but i can’t find it.

LOL “Harvard seems to be an extremely hard college to get into.”

hey Canadianftw, I’m not sure if you’ll get this, but how much additional boost do you think an applicant from UTS or UCC would get? Thanks :)

does anyone know approximately what IB score you should get to apply to Harvard or an Ivy??
