I missed all the 07 deadlines and haven't taken the SAT's as yet. Now, I'll have to go to a Canadian uni. (probabaly McGill). I will spend my first year there then transfer to the Ivies.. Anyone here done this that can outline the procedure and the differences from applying as a direct entry?

I was in the same boat earlier this year. I applied to american schools, got rejected and then was planning on going to U of T or McGill and then transfer. However, instead, I took a year off to work. I applied again this year... dont know if it worked, but taking a year off is definately an option for you.

Dont let people - parents, teachers - dsicourage you. If you take a year off and get a good job in a field you're intersted in, it can be a good idea. PLus it will give you the chance to study and take the SAT's and the ACT - take the ACT, for me it was much easier, but do both and see which one you do better on.

Anther reason to take a gap year, is time. The SAT's, the ACT, references, the application and school reports take a lot of time. It would be extremely difficult to do all that, maintain a good university average and assimilate into living on your own.

Thats just my opinion though. Anyways good luck at McGill and with the transfer. But just look into the idea of a gap, it can be avery rewarding experience.
