Canadian Uni -->Wharton

Hi,

I wanted to know if there's any chance a student in social science could transfer to Wharton. I meet most prereqs except possibly calculus because it wasn't a program prereq. Would pleading to take calculus at Penn over the summer be an option?

GPA would be approx 4.0/4.0, I have a 92 average in our percentage scale
Good profile - helped found a national charity, summer internship at an i-bank,etc. I think I could get a decent SAT score, had around 1400 on the old one. Let me know what you think of the odds.

What university in Canada did you go to? That percentage seems quite high....

University of western ontario - I know it's high but I had the top mark in in each of my courses or at least in my section.

I'm (conditionally) accepted to the Richard Ivey School of Business next year but would much rather be at Wharton. I find the atmosphere her is a little suffocating after a while (ie case discussions are frusterating and not intellectually stimulating)

I was validictorian in highschool -graduated 97% and worked at a large investment bank as a summer intern. Profile is fairly good but not outstanding, helped found a national charity, run a peer mentorship program, residence council exec, first year research paper with associate dean on a business topic and deans office permission to make/name my degree, several merit scholarships. Nothing super special but I think my application would be read, not too sure after that point.

SAT scores kept me from getting an offers in highschool (1340) and worse SATIIs.. but if I study/prepare for them I think I can reasonably get the equivalent of 1500+ on the new system. SATII Eng essay was 5/6 last time and generally I get fairly good essay grades.

A campus friend transfered to general Penn and really enjoys it there.

I know I have a good shot at my career goal if I graduated near the top here since Ivey has excellent recruitment but I think I would have a more stimulating experience at Wharton to be honest. I might be totally wrong but you can't blame me for hoping I might have that option.

hmm interesting. I saw another girl posting on her who is at Penn now that transferred from Western. I was at Queen's but left and am now considering maybe going to Western. I'm not sure it's worth retaking the SAT's to be honest. Do they accept ACT's? A lot cdn's excel more at them then the SAT's. Thats true for me.

well taking the SATs again wouldn't be a problem. i think I could study for them for 2 weeks over christmas and take them early january.

Western is a good school but.. I duno... at times I feel like things are so introductory, all the time. I don't know how it's like in the Ivy Leagues but I could reasoanbly pass on my courses and graduate without reading/knowing much at all.

I'm sure taking the SAT's again wouldn't be a problem, I'm just saying you may score higher on the ACT's, thats all.

My problem with Queen's (which I left. I know live/work in the UK) was that it was very Ontario-centric (I'm from Sask) and it really wasn't about learning. I'm not into regurgitating exactly what the prof's want to hear. I actually wanted to learn and it just didn't feel like that there.

Well I'm from Canada (as if the name wasn't a complete giveaway) and I think you have a damn decent shot at transferring. If the people that review your application are familiar with Canada's grading scale and UWO then I think you're in honestly. I'm surprised you don't want to go to Ivey honestly, it's the best business school in Canada. If you plan to stay in Canada, a degree from Ivey will probably take you as far as a degree from Wharton but hey, you never know if you don't apply.
